Bailin Temple (柏林禅寺), originally established during the Eastern Han Dynasty’s Jian’an period (196-220 AD), holds a rich history and cultural significance. Initially known as “Guanyin Yuan,” it was later called “Yong’an Yuan” during the Southern Song Dynasty and “Bailin Zen Yuan” during the Jin Dynasty. Since the Yuan Dynasty, it has been officially known as Bailin Zen Temple. The current temple complex, excluding the Bailin Temple Pagoda, was constructed in 1992, covering an area of over 90 acres. It houses the Hebei Buddhist Academy and the Hebei Chan Buddhism Research Institute. The present abbot is Master Minghai, with a resident community of more than 160 monks. The temple stands as a hub of Buddhist education and research, contributing to the preservation and propagation of Chan Buddhism in the Hebei province.

Bailin Temple is situated in Zhao County, in the southeast suburb of Shijiazhuang, the capital city of China’s Hebei Province, near the famous Anji Bridge. The temple’s exact address is No. 23, Shita East Road, Zhaozhou County, Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province.
To get there, tourists can take bus 72, 75, or 215 in Shijiazhuang and then transfer to an express coach to Bailin Temple at Nanjiao Long-Distance Bus Station (南焦长途客运站). The temple is about 51 kilometers from the city center of Shijiazhuang. If you decide to take a taxi, the fare would be about 120 RMB.
