Aba Travel Guide
Aba might not be a familiar name to many, but its famed attractions, Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong, are renowned worldwide. During the summer and autumn, tourists from around the globe flock to these sites to witness the breathtaking, vibrant colors that appear almost miraculous. Beyond Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong, Aba’s vast 80,000 square kilometers are filled with stunning landscapes and rich Tibetan and Qiang cultural heritage.
In the southeastern part of Aba, areas like Wenchuan, Lixian, Maoxian, and Heishui are predominantly inhabited by the Qiang people. Here, you’ll find traditional Qiang villages with ancient watchtowers and vibrant forests, making it a favorite weekend retreat for residents of Chengdu. The northwestern part of Aba, including counties like Ruoergai, Hongyuan, and Rangtang, is characterized by its expansive, lush grasslands. These grasslands not only offer picturesque views but also produce delightful treats like yogurt that tantalize your taste buds.
In the southwestern region of Aba, areas such as Xiaojin, Maerkang, and Jinchuan are traversed by mighty rivers carving through steep gorges. This region is home to the enigmatic Jiarong Tibetan people, whose traditional lifestyle adds a layer of mystery and allure to the region.

Starting from Chengdu, if you want to come straight to this spot in my photos, take a high-speed train for 1.5 hours to Zhenjiangguan Station, then share a ride or take a taxi for 1 hour to Songpinggou.
