Qinhuangdao Travel Guide
Named after Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China, who visited the area in 215 BC and sent envoys to the sea in search of immortality, Qinhuangdao is the only Chinese city named after an emperor’s honorific title.
Visitors can follow nature’s rhythm to enjoy the beautiful coastal scenery here. The city boasts numerous natural attractions, including the famous seaside resort of Beidaihe. Beidaihe is perfect for a relaxing getaway, where you can admire the sea views and savor fresh seafood. Tracing the steps of history, you can explore the “First Pass Under Heaven” at Shanhaiguan Pass, where the Great Wall meets the sea. The imposing Shanhaiguan Pass has long been recognized as a vital military stronghold, known as the “Key to the Capital and the Throat of Liaodong.”
Qinhuangdao seamlessly blends natural beauty with historical significance, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience both scenic coastal landscapes and remarkable cultural heritage.
The Azure Coast is just as stunning as Anaya’s Golden Coastline, featuring romantic all-white seaside cafes, art galleries, and bookstores. The atmosphere is wonderful, and there are a lot of seagulls by the sea.
In the past two days, there have been a lot of jellyfish in Qinhuangdao, including those big box jellyfish. When they sting, it releases a large area of them. I think I will come back after some time.
I really love the summer in Qinhuangdao. The atmosphere is perfect with cold beers , fresh seafood , and chill coffee shops. And of course, my favorite place, the Anaya Community (阿那亚社区), is so much fun to explore!

1. Qinhuangdao’s transportation can be a challenge. The main areas from north to south are Shanhaiguan, Haigang District, Beidaihe, Nandaihe, and Beidaihe New District. Public buses and taxis (like Didi) are common modes of transport. Parking in the scenic spots costs around 10 yuan per hour. Private parking may be more expensive. Public buses in Qinhuangdao run less frequently between different areas. 2. For watching sunrises and sunsets, good spots for sunrise include Changli Nandaihe: Anaya, Azure Coast; Beidaihe: Pigeon Nest, Sea and Sky, Happy Bay, and Shallow Bay; Haigang District: Golden Dream Bay. For sunsets, Tiger Stone is highly recommended. 3. Anaya is relatively expensive compared to accommodations in other areas of Qinhuangdao. It is beautiful inside but more suitable for middle-class living. It’s more of a residential community than a tourist attraction. There are no specific activities for visitors besides taking photos, so it may not be essential… Read more »
Qinhuangdao is a hidden gem city that is seriously underestimated. It’s one of my favorite coastal cities I’ve visited this year. Here are some travel preparations: 1. Documents: ID card, student ID, other documents. 2. Electronics: charger, power bank, camera, selfie stick. 3. Daily necessities: skincare products, makeup, toiletries. 4. Others: umbrella, mask, sunglasses, motion sickness medicine, etc. Recommended attractions (from personal experience): 1. Pigeon Nest Park (鸽子窝): Catching small crabs, fish, and shrimp is really fun here! Be careful not to be scammed by scalpers at the entrance. Tip: It’s recommended to bring small bread and a fishing net for catching fish, as buying props on-site may reduce the fun. 2. Qinhuangdao Wildlife Park (秦皇岛野生动物园): I believe there are no children who don’t enjoy seeing animals. It’s a must-visit for families on weekends in Qinhuangdao. 3. Beidaihe (阿那亚): The water here is bluer than anywhere else, perfect for stunning… Read more »
During my trip to Qinhuangdao, I encountered a breathtaking sunset at Juzi Hai (Orchard Sea). For watching the sunrise , I recommend the following locations: Laolongtou (Old Dragon’s Head) in Shanhaiguan, Dongshan Bathing Beach and Jinmeng Bay in Haigang District (both free entry), Geziwo Park and Laohushi Park in Beidaihe (both free entry), Xianluo Island and Wulan Hai An (both free entry) in Beidaihe New District, and Anaya (requires app reservation). For catching the sunset , you can visit the same places as for sunrise, along with Dong’erlu Bathing Beach and Pingshuiqiao Park in Beidaihe, where Laohushi Park is highly recommended. It’s suggested to check the weather forecast in advance, as clear weather is essential for enjoying the sunrise and sunset. Arriving at the beach around 17:30-18:00 is advisable to secure a good spot. Huanhai Road is ideal for capturing sea views, while the beach provides a better setting for… Read more »
