Hangzhou Bay National Wetland Park – Ticket, Opening Hours, Location, and Highlights

hangzhou bay national wetland park

Hangzhou Bay National Wetland Park (杭州湾国家湿地公园) spans an impressive 63.8 square kilometers and is situated in the An Dong Salt Marsh, renowned as one of China’s eight major saline-alkali wetlands. Characterized by flat terrain, the park comprises coastal mudflats, offshore sandbars, and reclaimed wetlands within ponds. It boasts a subtropical monsoon climate, with humid air and abundant rainfall concentrated from March to September. Rich in aquatic flora, the park is home to over 220 bird species from 18 orders and 45 families, including endangered species like the Baer’s Pochard, Eurasian Curlew, and Black-tailed Godwit.

Visitors to the park enjoy a unified ticketing system covering electric cart and boat rides, simplifying access to all attractions. Two tour routes, A and B, offer identical experiences, differing only in the sequence of transportation modes – either starting with a cart ride followed by a boat trip (A), or vice versa (B). Bicycle rentals are available, requiring a 100 yuan deposit and charging 10 yuan per hour for single bikes and 20 yuan per hour for tandem bikes.

The park is divided into five functional zones: Wetland Education Center and Exhibition Area, Waterfowl Activity Area, Wetland Treatment Area, Waterfowl Habitat Area, and Egret Breeding Grounds and Forested Wetlands. Visitors can explore attractions like the Live Fish Exhibition Garden, Water Forest, and Pet Paradise.

At the heart of the park lies the Wetland Education Center Building, an architectural landmark designed to blend seamlessly with the wetland environment. Built according to the highest three-star green building standards, it integrates renewable energy sources like solar, biomass, wind, and geothermal energy. Equipped with facilities like the Bird Migration 6D Dynamic Cinema and Wetland Migratory Bird Museum, the center offers interactive experiences centered on bird migration themes (priced at 50 yuan). Visitors can embark on an immersive journey alongside migratory bird “Jia Jia,” tracing its path from Siberia to the warm embrace of Hangzhou Bay, experiencing the wonders of migration firsthand.
