xuehua cave, zhengzhou

Xuehua Cave (Snowflake Cave, 雪花洞), nestled within the limestone terrain, stands as a testament to nature’s artistry, stretching over 1110 meters with three halls and a corridor, encompassing approximately 4000 square meters. It’s a mesmerizing underground world, described as quiet, elegant, profound, with a constant temperature of around 15°C throughout the year, making it a delightful destination for exploration and sightseeing.

The cave’s interior is adorned with crystalline stalactites and stalagmites, resembling delicate stone flowers, grapes, and corals, formed by secondary chemical deposits, adorning the entire pathway of Xuehua Cave. The vast expanse and exquisite formations make it a rarity among caves both domestically and internationally. Adorning the walls for a staggering 173 meters, the “Snowflake Corridor” boasts accumulations of stone flowers resembling delicate snowflakes, akin to two massive jade screens.

With a total area of 34.55 square kilometers, Xuehua Cave Scenic Area is aptly dubbed as the “Little Guilin” of the Central Plains. The area boasts an impressive forest coverage rate of 89%, and it’s traversed by 18 ravines spanning over 5 kilometers each. More than 30 pools and springs, exemplified by the picturesque Xiaolong Pool, dot the landscape. Over 200 temples, centered around the Qin-Dynasty Jianyuxian Holy Temple, stand as cultural landmarks. Additionally, atop various peaks, over 30 ancient castles and forts from the Sui and Tang dynasties are preserved, earning recognition from the National Defense Science and Technology Commission as the “Chinese Military History Museum” and the “First Castle Group of China.”

During the resistance against Japanese aggression, figures like Pi Dingjun and Xu Zirong established the Yuxi Anti-Japanese Base Area here, leaving behind 21 revolutionary sites. The Yuxi River meanders through the region, offering a glimpse into geological landscapes spanning from the Cenozoic to the Precambrian era, showcasing the geological marvels of the Neogene, Paleogene, Mesozoic, Paleozoic, and Precambrian ages along its banks.
