Fangmaping Alpine Grassland – Ticket, Opening Hours, Location, and Highlights

fangmaping alpine grassland

Fangmaping Alpine Grassland (放马坪高山草原), located in Xingren City, Guizhou Province, is often dubbed as the “Plateau within the Great Wall”. Encompassing an area of over 28,490 acres, it comprises approximately 21,000 acres of natural grassland and 7,490 acres of natural forest. Situated in a transitional zone from the Yun-Gui Plateau to the low mountains and hills of Guangxi, Fangmaping boasts unique landforms and picturesque scenery.

The scenic area is well-equipped with various facilities, offering visitors the opportunity to experience over 20 entertainment activities, including hot air balloon rides, off-road motorcycling, extreme grass skiing, traditional archery, horseback riding, and ethnic swings.

At the northern end of Fangmaping Grassland, there lies a flat land of about 90 acres, resembling the slightly raised head of a dragon. This area is known to be the site of the ancient military camp of Manaixun. Perched atop steep cliffs, it was here in the year 1600 that Long Jizhao, the local military leader, led his forces to build stone walls and establish a camp, turning it into a stronghold with formidable defense capabilities and housing thousands of troops to fight against the Qing Government. As visitors stroll through the ruins of the Manaixun military camp, they witness perennial springs, lush grass, scattered stones, and faintly discernible pathways, evoking a sense of desolation as if stepping back into the tragic history of over 300 years ago, amidst the bloody battles and turmoil.

What’s truly breathtaking about Fangmaping is the presence of a natural lake called Xima Pond. Beneath the azure sky, the lake shines like a sapphire, appearing as if it’s a radiant mirror embedded in the mountainous grassland.
