Anyang Travel Guide
Anyang, also known as Ye City, is the birthplace of the Oracle Bone Script and the origin of the “I Ching” (Book of Changes). This ancient city, with a history of over 3,300 years as a settlement and 500 years as a capital, proudly holds the title of “China’s First Ancient Capital.” Located at the northernmost point of Henan Province, it also stands centrally on China’s geographical map. Anyang is home to several historical treasures, including the world-renowned Simuwu Ding (Houmuwu Ding), the earliest known Chinese capital city – the Yinxu Ruins, and the man-made Red Flag Canal. Among these, Yinxu has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Geographically, Anyang is situated at the intersection of four provinces: Shandong, Shanxi, Hebei, and Henan. The city is bordered by the Taihang Mountains to the west and the North China Plain to the east, with its terrain sloping from high in the west to low in the east. The city’s highest elevation in the west reaches 1,667 meters, while the lowest point in the east is only 50 meters above sea level.
