Qufu Travel Guide

Qufu is a city located in the southwestern part of Shandong Province, China, approximately 135 kilometers north of the provincial capital, Jinan. Qufu is globally renowned for its profound connection to Confucius, one of the world’s greatest philosophers and the founder of Confucianism. Over its long history spanning more than two millennia, Confucian culture has evolved into the orthodox culture of China, significantly influencing countries in East and Southeast Asia and becoming a cornerstone of Eastern civilization.

The city is home to the “Three Confucian Sites” (San Kong): the Confucius Temple, the Confucius Mansion, and the Confucius Cemetery. These sites are recognized for their prominent role in Chinese history and Eastern culture, leading UNESCO to designate them as a World Cultural Heritage site. Qufu is revered as one of the three great holy cities of the world, reflecting its significance as the birthplace of Confucius, as well as the location where he established his teachings and spent much of his life promoting his philosophy.
