The Forbidden City, also known as the Palace Museum, is located in the heart of Beijing, China. It is situated in the Dongcheng District and covers an area of 720,000 square meters.

The Temple of Heaven, another famous landmark in Beijing, is located in the southern part of the city, in the Xuanwu District. The distance between the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven is approximately 6 kilometers.

Taxi:

Visitors can take a taxi, which usually takes around 20 – 30 minutes and about 30 RMB, depending on traffic. You can exit the park from the north gate to save a little money and time.

Bus:

Exit the Temple of Heaven from the West Gate, take bus 2 or 120 there, get off at Tiananmen East (天安门东), and walk about 400 meters to the west to reach the entrance of the Forbidden City. This journey takes about 30 minutes and costs 2 RMB.

Subway:

Take subway line 8 from the west gate of the Temple of Heaven, transfer to subway line 1 at Wangfujing Station (王府井), get off at Tiananmen East Station (天安门东), Exit from Exit B, and walk about 500 meters to reach the Forbidden City. The journey takes about 35 minutes, costs you 3 RMB, and saves you the concern of traffic jams.

If you leave the Temple of Heaven from the east gate, you can take subway line 5, transfer to subway line 1 at Dongdan Station (东单), and then get off at Tiananmen East Station. This option takes about 35 minutes and costs you 3 RMB.

Unfortunately, there are no convenient bus or subway options at the north gate of the park. So if you decide to choose these ways, make sure to leave the park from the east or west gate.
