Huaxi National Urban Wetland Park (花溪国家城市湿地公园), located in Guiyang, Guizhou Province, is the first national urban wetland park in the province. Situated at an average elevation of 1140 meters, it enjoys a mild and humid subtropical climate with an average annual temperature of 14.9°C. With no severe winter chill and scorching summer heat, the park is often referred to as an ecological “oxygen bar” and a natural “air conditioner.” The air is fresh and pleasant, providing a welcoming environment for visitors.
Covering an expansive area of 4.6 square kilometers, the park includes the unified management of the 3.9 square kilometers Da Jiang Shan scenic area. The park is interconnected by the Hua Xi River, linking three distinct zones: Ten-Mile River Beach, Hua Xi Park, and the Luoping to Pingqiao Tourist Agricultural Belt. This combination makes it a rare urban wetland on a national scale.
Situated in a subtropical humid climate in a highland karst hilly region, the park features a unique karst topography, contributing to a diverse range of scenic resources. Its geographical location and geological structure create a captivating blend of landscapes, making Huaxi National Urban Wetland Park a remarkable destination for nature enthusiasts and those seeking a tranquil escape in a pristine environment.

Ten-Mile River Beach

The Ten-Mile River Beach plays a crucial role in the wetland ecosystem, serving functions such as water retention, flood control, climate regulation, and environmental improvement. The area is a treasure trove of biological resources, harboring seven nationally and provincially protected plant species, including camphor, beech, sandalwood, submerged sea cabbage flower, ginkgo, peony, and Eucommia. Additionally, it is home to five nationally protected wildlife species, namely the Chinese giant salamander (locally known as “baby fish”), peregrine falcon, red falcon, rock carp, and spotted golden-line barbel. The picturesque landscape of the Ten-Mile River Beach is characterized by surrounded peaks, bamboo-lined shores, scattered islets, murmuring waterfalls, and vibrant aquatic life. Visitors can also enjoy cultural landmarks such as water wheels, mills, granaries, and more.
Huaxi Park

Another noteworthy area is Huaxi Park, which has a rich history dating back to 1939. Originally named “Zhongzheng Park,” it was completed in 1940 under the supervision of Wu Dingchang, the then-president of the Guizhou Provincial Government. Later renamed Huaxi Park in 1949, it became an integral part of Huaxi National Urban Wetland Park in December 2009. Huaxi Park adds a historical and cultural dimension to the overall park experience, offering visitors a tranquil setting with lush greenery and charming pathways.
Dajiangshan Scenic Area

The Dajiangshan scenic area, situated on the eastern side of Huaxi Avenue, alongside the Huaxi River, covers an area of 3.9 square kilometers. The Dajiangshan mountain range boasts majestic peaks, abundant vegetation, and a picturesque landscape. Villages and cottages dot the foothills, while meandering streams and dense pine forests characterize the slopes. The mountainous terrain creates open forested areas with viewpoints and pavilions that provide stunning panoramic views of the beauty of the Ten-Mile River Beach below.
Huaxi Park has excellent water quality, with a gently flowing stream that creates a beautiful atmosphere. The entire route is quite long. The key benefit is the well-developed surrounding facilities, as it is located next to Guizhou University. There are also plenty of delicious food options available. Spending an afternoon there is very relaxing, with no pressure at all. You can rent a boat, although 120 yuan for an hour is a bit expensive.
Take the subway to Huaxi Park station, exit from Gate B, then go down the stairs on your right. After that, walk to your left, cross the bridge, and walking straight ahead, you’ll arrive at the rapeseed flower fields. The rapeseed flowers are blooming beautifully!
Wow, there are so many people in Huaxi Park! It’s so crowded that we can’t even move. I thought there would be fewer people out in the suburbs, but maybe it’s just because the weather is so nice today! The scenery is beautiful with clear mountains and waters, but it is a bit cold.
Reaching the highest point of Huaxi Park provides a stunning panoramic view of the entire park. The scenery is quite beautiful, featuring lush greenery and clear waters. However, the sun wasn’t out during my visit. There’s also a spot up there for making wishes. The climb was a bit challenging as the mountain is steep, and it was quite exhausting.
When the weather is good, head to Huaxi Park. You can take the subway directly there. Enjoy a bowl of steaming hot Huaxi beef rice noodles (花溪牛肉粉) and take a stroll around Huaxi Park; your soul will feel refreshed.
Huaxi Wetland Park is simply beautiful and has captured my heart!
There are bicycle rentals near the subway entrance, which can also serve as props for photography. The park is quite large, making it suitable for a leisurely bike ride.
Hua Xi Park is so beautiful, there’s no need to go to crowded tourist attractions.
Yesterday, the Huaxi Park under the sunset was truly beautiful!
The place is really beautiful, with great air quality. Those who love nature must come here. There are also many lovely little birds! It’s not crowded, but be aware that they don’t allow luggage storage at the entrance, so don’t bring too much with you.
