The Huzhou Museum (湖州市博物馆) is a comprehensive museum that integrates collection, research, and exhibition functions. Established in 1962 under the name of Wuxing County Museum, it was renamed Huzhou Museum in 1983 following the establishment of Huzhou City. In 2006, the new museum, located in Renhuangshan New Area, was officially opened to the public and was designated as a National Second-Class Museum. With a total construction area of 10,274 square meters, including an exhibition area of 4,000 square meters, the new museum provides ample exhibition space for visitors.
The museum boasts a rich collection of cultural relics, totaling over ten thousand pieces, including 36 first-class cultural relics, 135 second-class cultural relics, and 1316 third-class cultural relics. These artifacts span various historical periods of Huzhou and encompass a wide range of categories, including bronzes, ceramics, calligraphy, painting, and jade.
The museum features three main exhibitions:
- Huzhou’s History and Humanities Series: This exhibition showcases the cultural history and customs of Huzhou through four main sections: environment, history, scenery, and humanities.
- Zhao Yannian Art Exhibition: This section presents the life and artistic journey of Zhao Yannian, a renowned artist, through a display of his photographs, personal items, artistic manuscripts, original prints, and artworks from different periods of his life.
- Zhao Family Memorial Hall and Exhibition of Ming and Qing Classical Furniture: This area houses 23 pieces of classical furniture from the Ming and Qing dynasties donated by Mr. Zhao Jingxin.
These exhibitions offer visitors a comprehensive understanding of Huzhou’s cultural heritage, artistic achievements, and historical significance. They provide insight into the development of art, culture, and society in the region over the centuries.

The Huzhou Museum is situated at No. 1 Wuxing Road, Wuxing District, Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. To get there, you can take bus 3, 3B, 31, or 33, get off at Citizen Square Stop (市民广场站), and walk about 200 meters to the northeast.
