qinling wildlife park

The Qinling Wildlife Park (秦岭野生动物园), located in Xi’an, is a nationally recognized 4A-level tourist destination that seamlessly combines wildlife conservation, educational outreach, tourism, and leisure. Spanning over 2600 acres, this expansive park is home to some of the most precious inhabitants of the Qinling Mountains, including the “Qinling Four Treasures” – giant pandas, takins, golden snub-nosed monkeys, and crested ibises. Additionally, it hosts over 200 species and more than 6000 individual animals from around the world, making it the leading wildlife park in the northwest of China. Annually, it welcomes over 1.8 million visitors.

The Qinling Wildlife Park is divided into various zones, offering both pedestrian and vehicular exploration. These include the walking area, herbivore section, and carnivore section, each designed to provide visitors with unique and engaging experiences. The walking area, situated in the western half of the park, is home to animal exhibits like the giant panda enclosure, the golden snub-nosed monkey habitat, an ocean performance arena, and an amphibian and reptile house.

The vehicle zone, comprising the herbivore and carnivore sections, is found in the eastern and southern parts of the park, respectively. The herbivore section houses animals primarily from Africa and Asia. The eastern part features giraffes, zebras, oryx, and gazelles, while the western part showcases Asian herbivores such as the white-lipped deer, Bactrian camels, and yaks, among others.

In the southern carnivore section, you can observe a variety of predators, including tigers, African lions, bears, and wolves. For those seeking an up-close encounter with these majestic creatures, the park offers “feeding vehicles” (separate from the admission ticket), allowing visitors to disembark at designated stops to take photos and feed animals like the sika deer and giraffes (food available for purchase on-site).

Useful Tips Summarized from Reviews

Choose Your Seat Wisely: When taking the sightseeing and feeding cars, it’s recommended to sit on the left side. The park’s layout may not be entirely logical, but you’ll see more animals on the left side compared to the right side.

Bring Vegetables: At the entrance of the zoo, you can purchase a bag of vegetables for feeding the animals at a lower price than inside the park. However, note that this is only allowed for a few deer near the entrance, and excessive feeding may not be permitted.

Enjoy the Shows: Watching the circus shows doesn’t require purchasing VIP seats. Simply arrive early, and you’ll have plenty of good viewing spots. The VIP area doesn’t offer any additional interaction with the animals.

Know Your Transportation Options: The park offers four types of transportation:

  • Mini Train: Costs 60 RMB per person. Runs every fifteen minutes and stops at designated stations. Consider whether it’s worth the price, as the distance between stations isn’t significant, and the trains can get crowded.
  • Electric Cars: These cars accommodate up to five people and allow you to drive to your preferred locations within the park. Costs 200 RMB per hour.
  • Sightseeing Bus: Included in the park’s entrance ticket. Provides a tour around the predator and grassland areas without stopping.
  • Feeding Car: Costs 90 RMB per person. Includes a guide who offers simple explanations about the animals. Stops at the predator area where each person is given meat to feed the tigers, lions, and bears. Departure is after feeding is complete.
