Shuijing Village, Nanzhang – Ticket, Opening Hours, Location, and Highlights

shuijing village nanzhang

Shuijing Village (水镜庄), located 500 meters south of Nanzhang County town, is nestled along the banks of the Man River with the Yuxi Mountain as its backdrop. Within the rugged stone cliffs lies a cavern, known in ancient times as the “White Horse Cave,” where legend has it that a white horse frequently entered and exited. During the late Eastern Han Dynasty, the esteemed scholar Sima Hui migrated here to escape the turmoil of the northern wars, earning the elegant title of “Master Shuijing,” hence bestowing the village with its name, Shuijing Village.

Covering an area of 60 hectares, Shuijing Village boasts a harmonious blend of historical and cultural relics with natural landscapes, making it an ideal destination for leisure, tourism, and sightseeing. The village is home to diverse wildlife such as grey herons and squirrels frolicking amidst lush forests. It harbors over ten precious relics from the Han Dynasty, nearly 100 poems and prose pieces, 50 stone inscriptions, 100 calligraphic works and paintings by renowned figures, and 50 pairs of couplets, with some literary works dating back almost a millennium. The scenic area also features the largest outdoor rock climbing tourism project in the province, utilizing natural stone walls for adventure enthusiasts.

The architectural style of Shuijing Village predominantly features pavilion-style structures with soaring eaves and intricate carvings, exuding an aura of grandeur and elegance. Statues crafted from jade and stone depict Sima Hui, Duke Pang, and his students Zhuge Liang, Xu Shu, and Pang Tong in lifelike detail. Ascending the slopes, visitors encounter the “First Heaven Gate” and the “Second Heaven Gate,” ascending like stairways to the sky. Before the main entrance of the village, a wooden plank suspension bridge spans three rivers, providing travelers with a carefree and picturesque stroll, evoking a sense of tranquility and nostalgia.
