Tianxing Cave – Ticket, Opening Hours, Location, and Highlights

Tianxing Cave

Tianxing Cave (天星洞), nestled in the middle section of the Tianxing Bridge Scenic Area, lies approximately 6 kilometers downstream from the Huangguoshu Waterfall in Guizhou Province, China. This cave, a quintessential example of karst topography, boasts an array of natural chambers and side halls formed over millennia. Among these, the Southern Cave stands out as the largest, with dimensions ranging from 6 to 10 meters in height, 25 to 30 meters in width, and stretching 70 to 90 meters in length. What lends the cave its celestial name is a small aperture at the front of the cave ceiling, piercing through to the surface above. This aperture allows light to filter into the cavern, creating a mesmerizing effect akin to twinkling stars, hence the name Tianxing, meaning “Heavenly Star.”

Within Tianxing Cave lies a grand chamber, soaring over 50 meters in height with a diameter exceeding 150 meters, encompassing a total area of over 18,000 square meters. Amidst the kaleidoscope of colors and ever-changing formations of fantastical peaks and rocks, four colossal stone columns rise to meet the cave ceiling, each towering over 20 meters high. Adorned with clusters of stone flowers, these columns resemble intricately carved dragons and phoenixes, presenting a vibrant and captivating spectacle.

Tianxing is replete with natural wonders, such as the Grape Hall, where formations resembling bunches of grapes crafted from calcium carbonate gel adorn the walls. Elsewhere, scattered across the stone terraces, one encounters stalagmite formations resembling the mythical Eight Immortals crossing the sea. Vividly colored and uniquely shaped dripstones, disk-like formations, and stone plates evoke the imagery of a heavenly banquet set with golden cups and jade dishes, offering a feast for the senses.

Moreover, the cave features formations resembling a lotus pond, the Great Wall of China, icy mountains, terraced fields of ethnic Miao villages, as well as depictions of birds, insects, fish, animals, flowers, trees, fruits, and vegetables sculpted by nature’s hand.

Visitors to Tianxing Cave are not only treated to a visual spectacle but also to a journey through time and imagination, where the forces of nature have sculpted an otherworldly realm of breathtaking beauty and wonder. As one traverses its chambers and halls, each turn reveals new marvels, captivating the mind and stirring the soul with the awe-inspiring majesty of the natural world.
