Tiankengs

One of the must-see attractions in Wanfenglin is the Tiankeng, or “Heavenly Pit.” These pits resemble giant craters created by a colossal impact, adding an otherworldly charm to the landscape. While the exact number of Tiankengs in the area remains unknown, notable ones include Yugu Lu, Yangping, Diaojingba, and Xiafali. Yugu Lu Tiankeng, located 40 kilometers northeast of Xingyi City, is renowned as the largest Tiankeng discovered in China. With a flat bottom and trumpet-shaped walls, it boasts a depth difference of 600 meters, surrounded by towering peaks. The 126 households residing around the Tiankeng have built their homes and various tools out of stone, creating a unique stone village with stone foundations, walls, benches, roads, and utensils.

Husband and Wife Springs

husband and wife springs in wanfenglin

In the Pogang area of Wanfenglin, there are two peculiar springs known as Husband and Wife Springs. Locals refer to them as “Divine Water,” “Strange Water,” or “Duo Duo Water,” with some playfully calling them “Male Spring” and “Female Spring.” These springs emerge from natural rock crevices and are connected by a natural “couple’s tape.” The Female Spring gushes water every 4-6 minutes, raising the water level by 3-5 centimeters, before converging with the Male Spring. When the Female Spring recedes, the Male Spring flows back towards it for a few minutes. This unique synchronization between the springs, akin to the relationship between husband and wife, is both fascinating and endearing. The water from these springs is crystal clear, resembling a mirror, and experiences minimal seasonal variations, maintaining its charm throughout the year.

1. On February 9, I arrived in Xingyi. In the morning, there was a marathon at Wanfenglin, so we first headed to the Maling River Canyon. There weren’t many people on this trip, which made it quite enjoyable. 2. I felt that Wanfenglin was colder than Maling River; I was sweating while walking at Maling, but my hands were freezing at Wanfenglin. 3. From a high vantage point, the rapeseed flowers in Wanfenglin were not blooming much, but I did… Read more »

The scenery of Wanfenglin is heavily influenced by the weather. Today, everything looks gray and hazy, with a washed-out appearance.

The canola flowers in Wanfenglin are partially in bloom, embracing the last warm sunlight before the cold wave arrives. No beautiful scenery can surpass this moment of winter warmth and blossoming flowers.

Although I missed the most beautiful time, it was very peaceful. It rained occasionally and then stopped, which felt quite pleasant.

Since the high-speed train service hasn’t started yet, there weren’t many people in Wangfenglin. By 5:10 PM when I entered the Ma Ling River, there were hardly any visitors left. On the way back, it felt like I was exploring the place all by myself, and with the sun setting, it wasn’t hot at all.

The tour route in Wanfengling is relatively simple. You can first go to the the International Conference Center observation deck to get an overview of the area. From this high vantage point, you can see the general appearance. In the evening, you can come here to watch the large-scale ethnic song and dance performance, “Dreaming of Wanfenglin,” which is worth seeing. The entire Wanfenglin scenic area also includes Wanfeng Lake. You can plan your itinerary freely to enjoy your trip… Read more »

I highly recommend renting an electric scooter. This place is perfect for biking and electric scooters, super fresh and comfortable, with the scent of nature and the wind. Who can resist it? I suggest riding from Xiaona Village to Wanfu Village, it’s perfect for taking photos .

I originally planned to visit the Malin River Grand Canyon, but it was raining heavily in the morning and the scenic area was not accessible. By noon, the rain finally stopped. I immediately took a taxi to the Wulingyuan Scenic Area. I was not disappointed at all. The mist and drizzle created an ethereal beauty of the peaks, leaving me speechless.

When visiting Wulingyuan Scenic Area (万峰林), you must ride an electric bike! Both the Upper and Lower Wulingyuan have beautiful scenery. Slowly ride the electric bike and stop to take photos whenever you come across a picturesque spot. The normal price is forty yuan per day.
