Yonghe Lama Temple, also known as the Yonghegong Temple or the Palace of Peace and Harmony Lama Temple, is located in the northeastern part of Beijing, China. It is situated in the Dongcheng District, just a few kilometers away from the city center.
The distance between Yonghe Lama Temple and the Forbidden City is about 5 kilometers, and there are several ways to get there.
Bus: You can take bus No. 82 at Dongan Gate Stop near the east gate of Forbidden City, get off at Beixinqiao Lukou Nan (Beixin Bridge South 北新桥路口南), and then walk about 700 meters to the north to reach the Lama Temple. The whole journey takes about 45 minutes and costs 2 RMB.
Or, you can take bus No. 124 at the Gate of Divine Prowess, get off at Fangjia Hutong Stop (方家胡同), and then walk about 850 meters to the east to reach the temple. This option takes about 50 minutes and costs 2 RMB.
Subway: Take subway line 8 at Jinyu Hutong Station (金鱼胡同) to the east of the Forbidden city, transfer to subway line 2, get off at Yonghegong Station, and walk about 300 meters to the south to reach the entrance of the temple. The journey takes about 40 minutes, and the fare is 3 RMB.
Bus + Subway: Take bus 101, 58, 109 at the Gate of Divine Prowess, the north gate of the Forbidden city, transfer to subway line 5 at Dongsi Station (东四), get off at Yonghegong Station, and walk about 100 meters to the south to reach the Yonghe Temple. The jounery takes about 30 mintues and costs you 5 RMB.
Taxi: You can take a taxi directly from the Forbidden City to Yonghe Lama Temple. It should take less than half an hour and cost around 20-30 RMB, depending on the traffic.
