Beijing is a city where ancient history and cutting-edge modernity exist side by side. In just three days, you can witness the grandeur of imperial China, stroll through historic alleys, explore contemporary art, and experience the city’s vibrant nightlife. This itinerary takes you from the heart of the capital – Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City – to the awe-inspiring Great Wall, with stops at lively hutongs, artistic enclaves, and buzzing nightlife districts. Whether you’re a history buff, a culture enthusiast, or simply looking for a mix of adventure and relaxation, this itinerary ensures you make the most of your Beijing experience.
Day 1: Tiananmen Square – Forbidden City – Shichahai – Nanluoguxiang

Start your day early at Tiananmen Square to watch the flag-raising ceremony. If interested, you can also visit nearby attractions such as the Great Hall of the People, the Monument to the People’s Heroes, and Chairman Mao Memorial Hall – these are optional stops.
Spend the afternoon exploring the Forbidden City, dedicating half a day to its vast imperial complex. To save time and enhance your experience, follow the central axis route and consider renting an audio guide for insights into the history and architecture.
In the evening, head to the Shichahai area to experience Beijing’s nightlife. Venture deeper into the hutongs to discover cozy and reasonably priced bars where you can relax. Afterward, take a stroll along Yandai Xiejie, a historic street nearby, or visit Nanluoguxiang, where you’ll find an array of small, affordable souvenirs.
Day 2: Temple of Heaven – Qianmen Street – National Centre for the Performing Arts – Xidan Shopping Area

In the morning, visit the Temple of Heaven, an ancient imperial site where emperors once performed rituals to pray for good harvests. Take your time exploring its vast grounds and iconic architecture.
Next, head to Qianmen Street, a historic shopping and dining area. Spend the afternoon wandering through nearby alleys such as Dashilan, Xianyukou, and Langfang Hutong, where you can experience traditional Beijing culture and find local snacks.
To the west of Qianmen is the National Centre for the Performing Arts. Its unique dome-shaped design is particularly stunning at night when illuminated. If you’re lucky, you might catch a beautiful reflection of the building in the surrounding water, creating a complete “egg-shaped” view.
If time allows, continue westward to explore Xidan, one of Beijing’s busiest commercial districts, where you can shop and experience the modern side of the city.
Day 3: Badaling Great Wall – 798 Art District – Sanlitun

Start your day early by taking a high-speed train from Beijing North Station or Qinghe Station to Badaling Great Wall. The journey takes only about 30 minutes. Hiking the entire section of the Great Wall here takes around 3–4 hours, but if you prefer a more relaxed visit, you can take the cable car to the top.
After returning to the city in the afternoon, head to 798 Art District, a creative hub filled with contemporary art galleries, graffiti walls, and industrial-style architecture. It’s a perfect spot for photography, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot celebrities shooting on location.
In the evening, visit Sanlitun, one of Beijing’s trendiest nightlife areas. Choose a bar or nightclub to experience the vibrant and modern side of the city’s youth culture.
