Jinjiangshan Park (Jinjiang Mountain Park, 锦江山公园) is the largest comprehensive park in Dandong, offering visitors a blend of nature, culture, and history. The park is divided into five scenic areas, with the landscape tour area standing out for its lush greenery, winding paths, and pavilions nestled harmoniously throughout. The park is home to various rare tree species, including pines, yews, cherry blossoms, and ginkgo trees. From its higher elevations, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Dandong City and Sinuiju City across the border in North Korea. Within the park, the Cultural Garden showcases local cultural history and modern calligraphy, while the “Liaodong Liberation Memorial Tower” and the “Martyrs Cemetery of the Korean War” add historical depth to the park.
Originally named Zhenjiangshan Park, Jinjiangshan Park has a rich historical background. In 1905, Japanese monks built Linji Temple on the mountain, followed by the relocation of the remains of Japanese soldiers who died in the Battle of Benxi Lake. Japanese shrines, such as the Hachiman Shrine and a monument dedicated to their war dead, were constructed on Jinjiangshan. In 1912, the South Manchuria Railway Company developed the area into a recreational spot for Japanese residents living in Dandong’s concession. By 1932, more facilities were added, including pavilions, a wrestling arena, a lotus pond, and a zoo.
After the liberation of China, significant changes were made to Jinjiangshan Park. The Liaodong Liberation Memorial Tower was erected, along with the elegant Huiguige Pavilion and a pocket-sized cultural garden reflecting local heritage. The park’s Jinjiang Pavilion, waterside pavilions, and the Nine-Curve Bridge were renovated and expanded. Animal enclosures for tigers, leopards, lions, birds, and seals, as well as a children’s amusement park, were also introduced. The park now features a variety of vibrant flower beds and greenery, making it a peaceful and picturesque destination. Jinjiang Pavilion, the highest point in the park, offers stunning views of the Yalu River, the surrounding mountains, and the scenic landscapes of both China and North Korea.
