Longgong Cave Scenic Area (Dragon Palace Cave Scenic Area, 龙宫洞), discovered in 1978, is a subterranean karst cave complex. Named after the Dragon Palace in the classic novel Journey to the West due to its resemblance, Longgong Cave consists of several components, including a group of caves (Longgong Cave, Yuhu Cave, and Yuxian Cave), the Xianzhenyan Temple, a forest park, and the Lovers’ Valley rafting area. Formed during the Cambrian period of the Paleozoic era, this unique karst cave has been gradually sculpted by nature into a magnificent underground palace. The cave maintains a constant temperature of 18°C year-round, featuring streams, stalactites, and towering stalagmites in various formations.
Longgong Cave stretches for 2,700 meters and is rich with stalactites, draperies, and stalagmites. Key areas include the Front Hall, Passage, East Palace, West Palace, and Main Hall. The Front Hall features three parallel stalagmites resembling elderly men with white beards. The East Palace is adorned with stalactites of various shapes, illuminated by neon lights to create a dazzling display. In the West Palace, a stalagmite connects seamlessly with a stalactite from the cave ceiling, resembling the Sea-Stabilizing Needle of the Dragon King from Journey to the West, pressing down on a stone turtle below. The Drum and Music Hall’s stalactites resemble a giant waterfall, formed by hundreds of stalactites. The Main Hall, located about 1,100 meters from the entrance, measures 80 meters in length, 70 meters in width, and 60 meters in height. The ceiling’s hanging stalactites resemble palace lanterns, with intricate patterns on the walls. The central Dragon King’s throne is flanked by a towering pillar on the left and a stone drum on the right, showcasing nature’s remarkable craftsmanship.
Yuhu Cave is divided into dry and water sections, with the dry cave extending 500 meters and the water cave 700 meters. Inside, the water flows gently, creating shimmering reflections. Boating through this cave offers a unique and enjoyable experience. The spacious Yuhu Hall has even hosted national basketball tournaments and holds a Guinness World Record for its unique characteristics.
