Originally constructed during the Yuan Dynasty and later expanded in the Ming Dynasty, Migong Temple stands as one of the iconic landmarks within the city.

Mi Fu (米芾), affectionately known as “Mi Xiangyang,” was revered for his literary and artistic talents, particularly his expertise in calligraphy and painting. Alongside Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, and Cai Xiang, Mi Fu was hailed as one of the “Four Masters of the Song Dynasty.” His distinctive style in running and cursive script earned him widespread acclaim, and his landscape paintings were renowned for their unique expression, earning him the title of “Mi’s Cloud and Mountain.”

The temple complex comprises three main architectural components, with the central axis serving as the focal point. These include the main hall, known as the Baidian (Hall of Worship), the Stele Corridor, Baojin Studio, and Yanggao Hall, covering an area of over 12,000 square meters. Within the halls, a vast collection of Mi Fu’s calligraphy and stone inscriptions from the Song Dynasty are meticulously preserved and displayed.

Flanking the central axis are the East and West Stone Gardens, featuring pavilions, terraces, and corridors adorned with calligraphy stone inscriptions from Mi Fu, Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, Cai Xiang, and other renowned calligraphers. These inscriptions, along with contemporary calligraphy works left by famous calligraphers, enrich Migong Temple with a wealth of artistic treasures, forming a vast repository of artistic excellence.

In addition to its architectural splendor, Migong Temple is adorned with numerous inscriptions, plaques, and couplets that pay homage to Mi Fu’s artistic legacy and character.
