Weihai International Bathing Beach (威海国际海水浴场), alongside Liugong Island and Chengshantou, forms one of Weihai’s three major scenic areas, renowned as one of the best seaside bathing beaches in China. Situated in a region with distinct seasonal variations and a mild maritime climate, it offers warmth in winter and coolness in summer, making it an ideal destination year-round.
Stretching along the coast adjacent to Shandong University Weihai Campus, the beach spans over 2800 meters with a sandy area covering 300,000 square meters. The sand here is fine and soft, complemented by clear seawater and a gentle slope, accommodating up to 100,000 visitors at once. One of its unique features is the opportunity to catch small fish in the sea – an experience cherished by visitors. Surrounding the beach is a thousand-acre pine forest, creating a picturesque backdrop that enhances the area’s natural beauty. The best time to visit is from May 1st to October 1st, during which the weather is most conducive for leisure and beach activities.
The iconic stone-carved gate marks the entrance to the bathing beach. On the west side stands a dolphin, above which are inscribed the words “International Bathing Beach,” penned by the renowned calligrapher Mr. Su Shengzi. On the east side stands a hippopotamus, with a lifelike mermaid carved on its front and an introduction to the International Bathing Beach on its back, also crafted by Mr. Su Shengzi.
In addition to its natural allure, the beach offers a variety of recreational facilities such as an amusement park and a water world with beachside attractions. Visitors can enjoy thrilling activities including speedboats, sightseeing cruises, and jet skis. Facilities like high, medium, and low-grade changing rooms and showers, as well as on-sea rescue services, ensure safety and convenience for all beachgoers. Moreover, the beach boasts comprehensive service amenities including dining options and accommodation, catering to a wide range of consumer preferences and budgets.
Adjacent to the beach are seafood stalls where vendors sell a variety of fresh seafood. Visitors can enjoy seafood dishes on-site or purchase them to take home, providing a convenient and affordable culinary experience.
