Hefei Wildlife Park (合肥野生动物园) is situated on the scenic southwestern slopes of Dashu Mountain, in the western suburbs of Hefei. The park spans an area of 54.4 hectares, with elevations ranging from 50 to 90 meters. The landscape features winding hills, secluded paths, lush greenery, and towering trees, creating a serene and natural environment. The air is fresh, and the water is clean, adding to the park’s appeal.

The park is home to over 100 species of animals, totaling more than 2,000 individual creatures. Major exhibits include the Peacock Garden, Herbivore Area, Black Muntjac Garden, Emu Garden, Squirrel Monkey Garden, Japanese Monkey Garden, Aviary, Chimpanzee Pavilion, and the Carnivore Free-range Area. Additionally, there are special venues for sea lion performances and bird shows.

Hefei Wildlife Park was designed with the concept of “Earth—a shared space for humans and animals.” The design style emphasizes a “natural, rustic, and forest-like” atmosphere. The park simulates the natural habitats of various animals, integrating their enclosures seamlessly with the surrounding environment. The park’s structures and landscaping utilize natural or nature-inspired materials, blending harmoniously with the overall environment.

Location and Transportation

Hefei Wildlife Park is located at 600 Wangjiang West Road, Shushan District, Hefei, Anhui Province, China. To get there, you can choose one of the following ways:

Bus: Take bus 48 or 85 and get off at Wildlife Park Stop (野生动物园站).

Metro: The closest metro station to Hefei Wildlife Park is Yulan Avenue (玉兰大道站) on line 4. After getting out of the station from Exit 4, walk about 1.5 kilometers to the north or take bus 43 to reach the attraction.


Highlights of Hefei Wildlife Park

Bird Garden: As of November 2022, the Bird Garden in Hefei Wildlife Park is the largest walk-in aviary in China, covering an area of 3 square kilometers. The garden features diverse landscapes, including Swan Lake, marshlands, and forested areas. Over 200 birds from protected species, such as red-crowned cranes, oriental storks, white swans, and black swans, freely roam the garden. Additionally, more than 800 waterfowl and colorful ornamental birds can be observed in this expansive space.

Peacock Garden: Located near the entrance of Hefei Wildlife Park, the Peacock Garden is designed in the style of Thai architecture. It is home to over a hundred blue and white peacocks. These magnificent birds can be seen lounging in the grass on the hillsides, strolling along the pathways, foraging for food, or playfully chasing each other in the tranquil environment.

Monkey Garden: Spanning nearly 1,000 square meters, the Monkey Garden features a man-made monkey hill and various shelters. The area is designed to mimic a natural habitat, providing a comfortable space for the monkeys to climb, play, and interact with visitors.

Sea Lion Performance Pavilion:The Sea Lion Performance Pavilion is a popular attraction in Hefei Wildlife Park, offering daily shows that showcase the impressive talents and playful nature of sea lions. Visitors can enjoy watching these intelligent marine animals perform tricks and interact with their trainers.

Grassland Animal Area: The Grassland Animal Area in Hefei Wildlife Park is home to over 100 herbivorous animals, including sika deer, yaks, elk, and wild donkeys. This area allows these animals to roam freely in a spacious, natural environment, providing visitors with a chance to observe them in a habitat that closely resembles the wild.

Predator Garden: The Predator Garden features the impressive Noah’s Ark Viewing Bridge, where visitors can safely stand and watch the predators below. This unique vantage point offers an exciting way to observe the park’s most dangerous animals up close, while maintaining a safe distance.

Family Fun Park: Located opposite the Small Animal Village, the Family Fun Park covers an area of approximately 1,600 square meters and is divided into five sections. The Horse Riding Area features six Shetland ponies from the UK, where visitors can enjoy watching them or even experience riding. In the Parrot Paradise, there are over 400 parrots from South America and Australia, including scarlet macaws, blue-and-yellow macaws, cockatoos, and green-cheeked conures. The Rabbit and Lemur Interaction Home houses long-haired rabbits, lop-eared rabbits, ornamental rabbits, and ring-tailed lemurs from Madagascar. In the Squirrel House, visitors can see Huangshan squirrels, chipmunks, and other small animals like black-tailed prairie dogs and meerkats. Finally, the Pigeon Corridor is home to over 100 pigeons, including blue-crowned pigeons, fan-tailed pigeons, and feather-legged pigeons.
