Diaoshuilou Waterfall In Jingpo Lake, Mudanjiang

Diaoshuilou Waterfall (吊水楼瀑布), also known as Jingpo Lake Waterfall (镜泊湖瀑布), is a stunning natural attraction located at the northern end of Jingpo Lake in the southwestern region of Ning’an City, Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang Province. This magnificent waterfall spans approximately 70 meters in width, which can expand to over 300 meters during heavy rainfall, and has a remarkable drop of 20 meters. Beneath the waterfall lies Heilong Pool, a deep basin measuring 60 meters in depth.

The waterfall comes alive during the rainy season or flood periods, with the sound of rushing water resembling thunder. The torrents roar down, crashing against rocks and creating a breathtaking spectacle of white water. The mist generated by the falling water often rises to form vibrant rainbows, enhancing the picturesque scenery. Resembling Niagara Falls in Canada, Diaoshuilou Waterfall is recognized as the largest basalt waterfall in the world.

Visitors standing on the cliff edge, gazing into the deep pool below, can experience a sense of vertigo as they peer into what seems like an endless abyss. A towering ancient elm tree, with its lush canopy, acts as a natural umbrella over the rocky cliff. Nestled within the dappled shadows of this tree is a charming octagonal pavilion known as the “Viewing Pavilion.” This cozy structure offers an ideal vantage point to admire the waterfall. Safety measures have been implemented, including iron railings along the pathways leading to the waterfall.

During the dry winter months, while the waterfall may diminish, it reveals a different yet captivating landscape. The lava bed beneath the waterfall showcases numerous natural caves that have been smoothed and rounded by years of flowing water. These unique formations resemble expertly crafted sculptures, providing a fascinating sight for visitors.

Whether visiting during the vibrant rainy season or the tranquil winter months, Diaoshuilou Waterfall captivates all who come to witness its beauty. The combination of stunning scenery, the roar of cascading water, and the tranquil charm of the surrounding nature make it a must-see destination for nature enthusiasts and adventurers alike.
