2-Day Longsheng Itinerary: Hot Springs & Rice Terraces

2 Day Longsheng Itinerary

Longsheng, known for its natural beauty and cultural richness, offers a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. From rejuvenating hot spring experiences to exploring the majestic Longji Rice Terraces, this 2-day itinerary will guide you through two of the most iconic spots in the area. Prepare for a serene retreat into the mountains, where nature’s wonders and cultural heritage await.

Day 1: Longsheng Hot Springs

How to Get There:

  • By Bus: You can take a direct bus from the Qin Tan Bus Station (琴潭汽车客运站) in Guilin to Longsheng County, followed by a shuttle bus to the Longsheng Hot Springs.
  • By Car: Driving from the city center will take around 2 hours.

Highlights: During winter, when the cold winds of Guilin make their presence felt, the Longsheng Hot Springs offer a warm, spring-like atmosphere, perfect for relaxation. The crisp mountain air, along with the soothing flow of natural spring water, creates an idyllic spot for unwinding and rejuvenating your body and soul.

Things to Do: The hot spring area is home to over ten pools of varying sizes and temperatures, allowing visitors to select the perfect temperature for their comfort. Whether it’s soaking in the warm water with family or friends during a chilly winter day or enjoying a swim in the large outdoor pools surrounded by mountains, the experience is pure bliss. There are also cozy indoor bathing areas, which combine the benefits of the hot springs with the refreshing forest air, making it a true natural spa. Don’t forget your camera—this place is not only perfect for relaxation but also provides beautiful backdrops for photos.

Accommodation: Since the hot springs are located in the mountains, it’s recommended to stay overnight at the Longsheng Hot Springs Resort. This gives you time to relax, enjoy the surroundings, and prepare for the adventure the next day.

Day 2: Longji Rice Terraces

How to Get There:

  • By Bus: From Longsheng Hot Springs, take a bus back to Longsheng County, and then transfer to another bus heading to the Longji Rice Terraces.
  • By Car: It’s a short 1-hour drive from Longsheng Hot Springs to the Longji Rice Terraces.

Itinerary: Morning: Ping’an Zhuang Village Rice Terraces
Afternoon: Jinkeng Hongyao Village Rice Terraces

Highlights: The Longji Rice Terraces, often referred to as the “Crown of World’s Terraces,” are a must-see destination. If you’re lucky, you might even catch sight of the terraced fields dusted with snow, creating a breathtaking landscape straight out of a fairy tale. The experience of breathing in the fresh air of the terraces will transport you to another world.

Things to Do: The Longji Rice Terraces are vast, comprising four major villages, with Ping’an Zhuang and Jinkeng Hongyao being the two main areas to visit. Ping’an Zhuang is the more developed area, known for its scenic views and the famous “Nine Dragons and One Tiger” and “Seven Stars Around the Moon” formations, which are best seen in the morning when the sunlight hits the terraces. It is also more tourist-friendly and often crowded.

Jinkeng Hongyao, on the other hand, is less developed but offers even more stunning views. Its terraces are larger and more dramatic, with an expansive layout that allows visitors to capture the full beauty of the rice paddies. The Hongyao ethnic minority’s culture is also a major attraction in this area. If you wish to take in panoramic views of the terraces, you can also ride the cable car to the top of Jinkeng Terraces, an excellent spot for photography.

Tips:

  1. The temperature difference between day and night can be quite large, so it’s important to dress in layers and keep warm.
  2. The mountain roads are winding, so if you’re prone to motion sickness, it’s advisable to bring motion sickness medication.
  3. If driving, it’s recommended to use a high-clearance vehicle, as the mountain roads can be rough. It is also not advisable for inexperienced drivers to navigate these roads.
