Jiefang Park (解放公园, also known as Liberation Park), located in Wuhan, China, is a renowned natural ecological park with a rich history and diverse attractions. This expansive park covers an area that was originally used as a racecourse for foreign merchants from countries such as England, France, Russia, Germany, Japan, and Belgium. In those days, it was commonly referred to as the “Xishang Racecourse.” Its transformation into a public park began in 1952 and was completed in 1955, coinciding with the sixth anniversary of the liberation of Wuhan, leading to its name, “Jiefang Park.”
As the largest natural ecological park in Wuhan, Jiefang Park offers a peaceful and picturesque escape from the urban hustle and bustle. The park is divided into two main areas: the eastern and western sections, each offering distinct experiences.

Location and Transportation
Wuhan Jiefang Park is situated near the Gude Temple in the northwestern corner of Hankou, a sub-district in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. The park’s precise address is 1861 Jiefang Avenue, Jiang’an District, Wuhan. To get there, you can choose one of the following ways:
Bus: Take bus 24, 509, 516, 524, 543, 724, 729, or 805 and get off at Jiefang Park Road Jiefang Park Stop (解放公园路解放公园站).
Metro: The closest metro station to Jiefang park is Huangpu Road (黄浦路) on line 1 and line 8. After getting out of the station from Exit E, walk about 200 meters to the west to reach the park.

Eastern Part of Jiefang Park
The eastern part of the park greets visitors with a central axis road lined with beautiful features. Along the way, you’ll find bottle-shaped flowerbeds, lush green lawns, bonsai gardens, lotus ponds, lily ponds, central flowerbeds, an open-air theater, a grove of water fir trees, Chao Meiling Hill, and a memorial to the Soviet Air Force volunteers. These features provide a blend of natural beauty, horticultural displays, and opportunities for cultural exploration.
Western Side of Jiefang Park
On the western side of Jiefang Park lies the Willow Forest area, spanning around 13 hectares and home to over a thousand tall trees, including willows, poplars, and white poplars. Meandering pathways, pavilions like Xiaochun Pavilion, Luhua Terrace, Yiting Pavilion, Shoushi Pavilion, stone tables, stone benches, and more create a tranquil environment for visitors to unwind and appreciate the natural surroundings. The park’s southern part houses the Lingzhi Stone, brought from Turtle Mountain, and an authentic monkey hill. This area also features small architectural elements such as an audience hall, rest pavilions, cages for various bird species, flower-lined paths, and gazebos.

Jiefang Park boasts additional attractions, including two seedling greenhouses and a 1.5-hectare flower garden, which boasts a diverse collection of flowers, with over 400 different types of chrysanthemums alone. The park is also home to 120 fish ponds, housing approximately 150 different varieties of goldfish and around 120,000 fish in total. Furthermore, visitors can enjoy a movie at the park’s cinema and make use of various children’s activity facilities.
