Luoyang Ancient Street (洛阳老街), also known as the Historical and Cultural District of Luoyang Ancient City, is the only area in Luoyang where the traditional features are relatively well preserved. With a long history and profound cultural heritage, it was constructed in the first year of Jin Xingding (1217) on the site of the Sui and Tang Dynasty cities, making it the only ancient city preserved in Luoyang to this day.
The area of the ancient street includes East Avenue, West Avenue, Xinghua Street, South Avenue, and North Avenue. Here, the most typical Ming and Qing architectural complexes with central plains residential features are preserved. Together with cultural relics such as Lijing Gate, Confucian Temple, Luoyi Ancient CIty, and Drum Tower, it forms a large-scale tourist attraction. It is also the most comprehensive historical and cultural district with the unique features of old Luoyang. Walking on the ancient street feels like traveling back to ancient times, experiencing the prosperity and bustle of that era.
In addition to its rich historical relics, the cuisine of Luoyang Ancient Street is also a major highlight. The variety of snacks here, with authentic flavors, is highly favored by tourists. Luoyang Shuixi (water banquet), spicy soup, stewed noodles, tofu pudding, and more are all characteristic delicacies of the Luoyang region. While enjoying the food, tourists can also deepen their understanding of Luoyang’s culinary culture.
Furthermore, Luoyang Ancient Street is a gathering place for folk activities. During festivals or major events, grand temple fairs or artistic performances are held here, attracting a large number of tourists and locals. Various performances, handicrafts, and specialty snacks at the temple fair allow people to appreciate traditional culture while experiencing the festive atmosphere.
