Highlights of Luxun Park

Historical background

historical background of luxun park qingdao

During the German occupation of Qingdao, coastal windbreak forests were established along various capes and slopes. By 1903, black pines were planted annually on the northern side of Huiquan Bay, coinciding with the construction of the No. 1 Bathing Beach. This beach became a summer resort for European businessmen from Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Southeast Asia. The black pine forest on the northwest side of the beach became a popular spot for tourists seeking shade and scenic views. During the first Japanese occupation in 1929, the black pine forest area was renamed “Shubin Park.” After Qingdao was reclaimed by the Chinese government, it was renamed “Seaside Park.” The park was then designed by the Qingdao Public Works Bureau, with renowned horticulturist Mr. Ge Jingying leveraging the natural coastal environment to create a picturesque park.

Beautiful Scenery

Entering Luxun Park through the main gate, visitors are greeted by a stone path leading downwards to a statue of Lu Xun, standing prominently in the center of a circular flowerbed. Flanked by rows of green pines, the path opens up to reveal rugged reefs and the vast ocean. The upper parts of the reefs are reddish-brown, while the lower parts are grayish-brown, creating a striking contrast against the blue sea. The base of the reefs is covered with hardy oysters, and the sandy areas are dotted with various shells. Many visitors find themselves drawn to the reefs, picking up colorful shells and seaweed washed ashore by the waves, rather than simply walking along the paths.

The distant sea is dotted with sails and flocks of seabirds, adding to the park’s allure and leaving visitors enchanted by the natural beauty.
