Nanhu Park (South Lake Park, 南湖公园) is located in the southeastern part of Nanning city, seamlessly blending water landscapes with subtropical garden scenery. Covering an area of over 930,000 square meters, the park features a crystal-clear lake with sparkling emerald waters. Originally a part of Yongxi Stream connected to the Yong River, the area would flood farmlands and homes during the river’s high water periods. During the Jingyun era of the Tang Dynasty, the local official Lü Ren organized workers to build dikes and create a lake, thus controlling the flooding. This lake later became known as Nanhu.
The park’s layout includes three-quarters of its area as water, with clear lake waters reflecting the blue sky and white clouds. A long embankment and a nine-arch bridge stretch across the lake. Within the park, visitors can find the Li Mingrui and Wei Baqun Baise Uprising Memorial Hall, a bonsai garden, an orchid garden, and various water amusement facilities. The park also features a water screen cinema and a famous tree exhibition garden.
Nanhu Park contains three “gardens within a garden”: a Chinese medicinal herb garden (with over 200 varieties collected from all over the country), a bonsai garden (including an orchard and flower garden), and an orchid garden (showcasing rare species like Summer Cymbidium, Sword Orchid, Mo Orchid, and Flame Orchid). Visitors can enjoy boating on the lake, fishing along its shores, and admiring the subtropical flowers and plants. With its array of exotic flowers and plants, Nanhu Park is an excellent place for locals to relax and enjoy recreational activities.
