Nanshan Park, Xining – A Nature Retreat

Nanshan Park, Xining

Nanshan Park (南山公园) is a stunning mountain forest park located in Xining, Qinghai Province. Designed as a multifaceted recreational area, the park integrates leisure activities, sightseeing, and afforestation efforts, making it a beloved destination for both locals and tourists. Covering an impressive area, Nanshan Park boasts a forest coverage rate of 80% and a vegetation coverage rate of 85%.

During the summer months, visitors are greeted by lush greenery, fresh and humid air, and the cheerful sounds of chirping birds, all contributing to a serene environment that invites individuals to reconnect with nature. One of the park’s highlights is the Hundred Flowers Garden, situated in the park’s central area. Here, dozens of species of plateau flowers, predominantly peonies, bloom in vibrant colors, creating a fragrant and picturesque landscape that contrasts beautifully with the surrounding forest.

The park features several scenic spots, including the Colorful Stream Scenic Area, which takes advantage of the natural topography. This area is designed to emulate the stunning landscapes of Jiuzhaigou Valley and Huanglong, showcasing tiered waterfalls and colorful pools that reflect light in mesmerizing ways. The harmonious blend of water and flora creates a captivating sight that enchants every visitor.

Additionally, the Tibetan Cultural Garden within the park houses the Qinghai Nanshan Linka Snowfield Charitable Association Folk Museum, where guests can admire the exquisite art of Thangka paintings, marvel at the unique stones from the source of the Three Rivers, and view precious artifacts related to Tibetan Buddhism. These cultural offerings provide a deeper understanding of the region’s rich heritage.

On the park’s summit lies the Islamic Tomb of the Ancestors, a historic site established during the Yuan Dynasty. With a history spanning over 700 years, this tomb has undergone numerous reconstructions due to past destructions. The current structure, rebuilt in the early 1980s, mirrors the architectural style of the Great Arch in Gansu Province, showcasing intricate Islamic designs that attract history enthusiasts and spiritual seekers alike.

Visiting Nanshan Park is convenient, with public transportation available from the city center to the vicinity of Nanshan Road, or visitors can opt for a taxi. The hiking trails are well-maintained and relatively easy to navigate, allowing people of all ages to enjoy the climb.
