Highlights of Oriental Pearl Tower
A bird’s eye view of the city

As one of the highest buildings in Shanghai, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the metropolis in the highest sphere (the Space Module) at 351 meters (1151 feet). According to the reviews of former tourists, it is the most impressive scenery when the night falls, and various landscape lights are turned on.
Transparent sky walking

The floor of the lower deck in the second sphere at 259 meters (849 feet) is made of transparent glass. Stepping on it is like walking in the air, and you can see the landscapes, roads, cars, and people right beneath you. It is a huge challenge to your gut and not very friendly to those with heart diseases.
Revolving restaurant

Also, in the second sphere, there is a revolving restaurant providing a buffet at 267 meters (875 feet). It finishes a full rotation in two hours. If you are not in a hurry, you may have a romantic dinner here and fully appreciate the night view of Shanghai.
Shanghai history museum

The Shanghai Urban History Exhibition Hall is located at the base of the Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower. It showcases over 80 exhibits through various sections, including Urban Landscape, Opening Port Overview, The Bund, Old Shanghai, Architectural Expo, and the Spring and Autumn of Transport. The hall features hundreds of precious historical artifacts, over a hundred scaled-down historical buildings, 117 high-quality wax figures, and thousands of small wax figures and clay figurines. These exhibits reflect the development of Shanghai’s urban history.

Useful Tips Summarized from Reviews
Optimal Visiting Time: Mornings typically have fewer visitors compared to the afternoon, especially if you’re not specifically going to see the night view. It’s recommended to visit in the morning, especially during important holidays, as the crowds tend to be lighter. Arriving around 8 a.m. is advisable for a more comfortable experience.
Reducing Queue Time: Consider purchasing tickets for the revolving buffet restaurant located in the upper half of the Oriental Pearl Tower’s second sphere at a height of 267 meters. The restaurant rotates once every two hours. However, there are time restrictions for dining: 1.5 hours for lunch and 2 hours for dinner. The advantage of dining here is that you can access the restaurant through the fast-track lane, and after dining, you can directly descend the stairs to the second sphere.
Photography Tips: The second sphere has many pillars, which may obstruct clear shots of people. However, descending one level from the second sphere (use the stairs) will lead you to the fully transparent glass-bottomed skywalk, which offers excellent photo opportunities.
Third Sphere Experience: The third sphere, which is the smallest one, houses a mini space capsule with a diameter of only 16 meters. It is 90 meters higher than the second sphere, offering a similar view but at an additional cost of 100 yuan. Many visitors regret spending the extra money, as the view is comparable to that of the second sphere. Therefore, it’s advisable to skip this option unless you are particularly interested in the novelty.
I excitedly bought a combo ticket for the Oriental Pearl Tower, expecting a good experience due to the relatively few people outside. To my surprise, there was a long line inside the building. After a long wait, I finally squeezed into the elevator to the second sphere. The moment I got off the elevator, I was dumbfounded by the crowd: people were packed tightly together in a small space with poor air circulation, and there was complete chaos. There wasn’t… Read more »
After having breakfast, we went to the Oriental Pearl Tower at 10 AM. The weather was gray and overcast, with only a hint of sunshine. We bought a package for two observation decks and a night cruise on the Huangpu River for 200 yuan, which was quite a good deal. My heart raced as I walked along the glass skywalk that feels suspended in mid-air. On the first floor, there was an exhibition hall that really opened my eyes to… Read more »
Tour itinerary: 1️⃣ Visit the 263rd floor for stunning views; you can use binoculars here, and the windows are all transparent, perfect for taking pictures. 2️⃣ Descend to the 253rd floor, where there’s a transparent glass platform that allows you to see the giant Mickey Mouse head below—this is definitely a test of courage! This level is great for photo opportunities. 3️⃣ Continue down to the observation corridor at 90 meters; to get there, you’ll need to pass through a… Read more »
During the holiday, the Oriental Pearl Tower was extremely crowded. If you really want to go up, I recommend buying the three-ball ticket, which cuts the waiting time in half. Alternatively, you could reserve a table at one of the restaurants in the tower. The quality of the food might not be the most important factor, but the key is that you can save around three hours on your visit.
From the observation deck of the Oriental Pearl Tower, I witnessed the prosperity and progress of this city, as well as my own insignificance and shortcomings.
I thought there would be fewer people at the Oriental Pearl Tower on a Monday, but I was surprised to find quite a crowd. I ended up waiting in line for nearly an hour, and my legs were sore from standing for so long.
I didn’t wait until it was completely dark at the Oriental Pearl Tower. A bit regretful, right? But I really couldn’t stand it anymore. There were too many people.
Purchasing the Two Spheres and Three Spheres combined tickets allows you to take a unified elevator to the 263-meter Sightseeing Level. With the Three Spheres ticket, after going through the ticket check elevator, you can take another elevator to the 351-meter Space Capsule. At the 259-meter observation deck: After visiting the 263-meter Sightseeing Level, you can take a staircase down to the 259-meter fully transparent cantilevered sightseeing corridor. Here, you can see through the transparent glass to the ground below,… Read more »
Remember to bring your ID, you need to swipe your ID to enter. If you arrive early, you can play on the slide outside the Oriental Pearl Tower (东方明珠) for a while. There are lots of children there. Viewing: Day or night? In my opinion, if you want to enjoy a panoramic view, daytime is better to experience the feeling of having the bustling Lujiazui at your feet. For the best night view, head to the Bund (外滩), where the… Read more »
