Qi Baishi (齐白石) (1864-1957) was a highly influential Chinese artist who is renowned for his unique style of painting, calligraphy, and seal carving. Born in Xiangtan, Hunan province, China, Qi Baishi was originally trained as a carpenter and started learning painting and calligraphy in his spare time at the age of 27. He went on to become one of the most renowned artists of the 20th century and is often regarded as a national treasure of China.

Qi Baishi’s style was highly individualistic and he developed a reputation for creating whimsical, playful and highly detailed paintings that often featured birds, insects, fish, flowers and fruits.
