Tianchi Island (天池岛): At the top of this island, seven artificially excavated stone pools bear the traces of garden stones extensively used by the Southern Song Dynasty to construct palaces, pavilions, and archways in Lin’an (Hangzhou). These remnants are collectively referred to as Tianchi, or “Heavenly Pool.”

Mishan Island (密山岛): With an area of 0.36 square kilometers and an elevation of 223 meters, Mishan Island is a picturesque haven with a profound Zen culture. The island is home to Mishan Zen Temple, where the legend of the “three monks without water to drink” is said to have originated.

Huangshan Jian (黄山尖): The main peak of this attraction rises to an altitude of 266 meters. From the mountaintop, one can overlook numerous islands naturally arranged to form the characters “天下为公” (The world is for everyone).

The island houses reception facilities for the Central Lake Area, offering a blend of dining, entertainment, water sports, and leisure sightseeing.

Osmanthus Island (桂花岛): Covering an area of 120 acres, Osmanthus Island is named after the wild osmanthus trees that adorn the island. At 7 AM, I took the high-speed train from Hangzhou to Qiandao Lake. Our first stop was Tianyu Mountain. The entrance to Tianyu Mountain looked just like a construction site due to ongoing renovations, and at first, I couldn’t even tell it was the entrance. For lunch, we had fish head soup. I thought it would only be a soup with a fish head, but it turned out to be an entire fish in a huge pot for 68 yuan.… Read more »

The autumn and winter at Qiandao Lake are also fantastic!!! It feels so cozy! We found a homestay with beautiful scenery. We gathered a group of friends to have a BBQ and hot pot while enjoying big crabs! We visited the lighthouse, savored some fish head, and just laid around for a day. This is truly the best way to explore Qiandao Lake!

Qiandao Lake lives up to its reputation, with numerous small islands scattered throughout. The two hotels I chose were both quite nice, and overall, I had a great time.

Qiandao Lake was not affected by the typhoon. It started out as a cloudy day, but in the evening, we were treated to a stunning sunset. I was very happy!

I suggest visiting Qiandao Lake in spring or autumn instead. The air conditioning on the boat is not very good, and it gets quite crowded during the summer. It can be really uncomfortable!

Not recommended to visit Thousand Island Lake Lighthouse recently. I woke up early to come here, but I was surprised to find that the water level is so high that even the railing can’t be seen. A construction worker nearby said it has been flooded for a month, and it may take some time to recede.

Qiandaohu Lake, Fuyang, Tonglu, and Jiande high-speed railway stations are all closed today.
The lighthouse in Beer Town is submerged.
The water levels in the central lake area have been rising.
Just received notifications of closures at the attractions.
It’s estimated that it will remain closed until the end of the rainy season.

Don’t go to Qiandao Lake on a rainy day
As there won’t be the stunning beauty of a sunny day, the gloomy weather without sunlight reflection makes it look like a fish pond. The rain will create mist, making it difficult to see into the distance.
Wait for a good weather before setting off, it’s really worth it.

You can drive around the lake, go cycling, take a boat ride, and try the fish head dish. There are many activities to enjoy, and it’s not too far from the main city area. This time, I started from Hangzhou with friends and drove along the lake, exploring Qiandao Lake in depth. The water is really clear, and the scenery is breathtaking.
