Shenyang Expo Garden (botanical Garden)

Shenyang Expo Garden (沈阳世博园), also known as the Shenyang Botanical Garden (沈阳植物园), is a multifunctional and comprehensive tourism destination that combines ecological viewing, exquisite garden art, cultural landmarks, scientific research, educational initiatives, and recreational activities. Established in February 1959, it officially opened to the public in 1993. The garden is notable for incorporating several innovative design concepts and construction techniques, such as the three-layer laminated glass bridge and the inclined towers of the “Wings of the Phoenix” building. The garden is also home to the Lily Tower, which is the largest sculptural structure in China.

Covering an area of 211 hectares, Shenyang Expo Garden features 196 hectares of green space, 6.5 hectares of water bodies, and 6.9 hectares of roads and buildings. It showcases exquisite gardens and architectural styles from all five continents, as well as key cities in China, with more than 100 exhibition gardens. The garden is recognized for its diverse plant resources, including various species from Northeast China, Northwest China, North China, and Inner Mongolia. Visitors can find over 2,000 types of plants, including both herbaceous and woody species, making it the largest plant exhibition garden in Northeast China.

The garden is divided into two sections by the Shenyang-Fushun railway, with the southern half dedicated to botanical specialty gardens, Cui Lake (Emerald Lake) and rock-climbing areas, tranquil ponds, and entertainment bridges, as well as a science park and a children’s play area known as Starland. The northern half includes a steam locomotive museum, hotels, and plant cultivation zones.

From April to October, the garden is in full bloom, providing the best opportunities for flower viewing and sightseeing. Throughout these months, various flower exhibitions are held, such as the Tulip Festival in April and May and the Blue Flower Exhibition in August, attracting many visitors who come to enjoy the vibrant displays of flora.
