Shenyang Forest Zoo (沈阳森林动物园) is located in the Qipanshan International Scenic Tourism Development Zone of Shenyang. Established in 2000, it covers an area of 217 hectares and showcases over 80 species of animals from around the world, with a total of more than 1,300 individual animals. It is the only comprehensive state-owned zoo in Shenyang that exhibits a variety of rare wildlife, serving as a science popularization base for youth in both Liaoning Province and Shenyang, as well as a research base for the artificial breeding of the Chinese red-crowned crane.
The zoo is divided into two main areas: the driving observation area and the walking observation area.
In the driving observation area, visitors can explore different sections including Tiger Mountain, Bear Hollow, Wolf Valley, Lion Ridge, the Asian Animal Prairie, the African Animal Prairie, and Waterfowl Lake. Here, guests can take a sightseeing bus to see animals such as Siberian tigers, bears, wolves, sika deer, African lions, Mongolian horses, wild donkeys, ostriches, red-crowned cranes, and yaks in a more natural setting. This area also includes a breeding base for rare species and a national-level research base for crane breeding.
In the walking observation area, visitors can stroll along the Tropical Rainforest Path and encounter a variety of animals, including Asian elephants, rhinoceroses, red pandas, white tigers, emus, baboons, macaques, geladas, kangaroos, sea lions, and seals. This area provides a more immersive experience for guests to enjoy the diverse wildlife and learn about the animals and their habitats.
