Suifen River State Gate (绥芬河国门景区) is a remarkable border landmark located at the boundary between China and Russia. This majestic gateway stands tall and impressive, symbolizing the connection between the two nations. To the north lies Russia, while to the south is China. The Suifen River State Gate is unique as it is the only scenic area in China that spans an international border, featuring three generations of State gates within its premises. The highest of these is the third-generation State gate, which stands at an impressive 51.8 meters, making it the tallest State gate in northern China.
Covering an area of 100,000 square meters, the scenic area boasts “two monuments, two buildings, four gates, and twenty-four sights.” Among these, the “Eight Scenic Spots of the State Gate” are particularly popular with visitors. Here, guests can wander along the “Great State Border Line,” visit the “State Gate Coordinates,” capture moments at the “Scenic Location,” and stroll across the “Golden Water Bridge of the State Gate,” where numerous unique landscapes await to be admired. The area is picturesque, offering countless photo opportunities that seem to frame themselves.
Interestingly, while Suifen River today holds significant strategic importance, its past was far more modest. Over a century ago, it was merely a small village, with little attention paid to the existence of a border. The transformation of Suifen River from an inconspicuous settlement to a bustling border city reflects the changes in geopolitical dynamics and regional development.
Today, Suifen River is a tranquil city that stands out thanks to its State gate. It offers a peaceful atmosphere, far removed from the hustle and bustle of larger urban areas. The drive from the city center to the State Gate scenic area takes only about five minutes, and a taxi ride costs approximately 10 yuan, making it accessible for visitors.
