To reach Wanniao Island, visitors can take a boat from the Changdao Tourist Wharf. The boats operate on a flowing schedule, departing between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM in the morning, and between 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM in the afternoon. The journey to the island takes approximately three hours round trip.

Every year, during April and May, Wanniao Island becomes a bustling sanctuary for avian life. It sees the passage of 274 species of migratory birds across 19 orders and 51 families. Geological Marvel

The island’s cliffs, primarily composed of quartzite and other erodible rocks, are weathered and sculpted by wind and sea. These natural forces have carved the cliffs into a fascinating array of formations, including stone steps, platforms, caves, and hollows, creating a natural “stone building” for the seagulls.
Exploring the Island
There are no roads encircling Wanniao Island. Instead, a single tunnel runs through the middle of the island, leading to the mountainside. This tunnel, known as the “Sky Road,” is a challenging and treacherous path, often likened to venturing into the seagull kingdom itself. Along this path, one can almost reach out and touch the birds as they soar overhead. Once at the summit, the birds appear to be at your feet, offering an unparalleled vantage point for birdwatching and photography.

June is the peak season for birdwatching on Wanniao Island. During this time, the island is teeming with life as young seagulls are hatched and begin to grow. By late July or early August, these young birds are ready to fly and leave the island, making it essential to visit during the prime months for a truly immersive experience.
