Xiamen Cat Museum

Xiamen Cat Museum

The Xiamen Cat Museum (厦门猫咪博物馆) is China’s first privately owned museum dedicated to feline themes, and it stands as the only cat museum across the Taiwan Strait. Nestled in the historical ambiance of Deng’aozi Road in the Xiahegang neighborhood, the museum has gradually transformed the old street into a cultural hub centered around cats. It serves as the ultimate experience center for cat enthusiasts, blending cat culture with artistic expressions to create a serene and nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of a fairy-tale castle.

Spanning over 200 square meters, the museum’s interior is adorned with aesthetic retro décor. Visitors are greeted by an array of world-class pedigree cats such as Garfield, British Shorthairs, and Persian cats, totaling over 20 charming felines. These cats can be seen playfully roaming, lounging, or even napping inside a retro tram adorned with paw-shaped handrails. During selected afternoon and evening hours, visitors can interact with these adorable “meow stars,” although half the time they are reserved for their afternoon nap to ensure their well-being isn’t disturbed.

One of the museum’s highlights is a cat-themed bar crafted from six Cold War-era ammunition crates, meticulously preserving the original components and markings, now enhanced with luxurious gold stainless steel linings and LED lighting. Displaying an emblematic plaque shaped like a cat, it reads: “No kill, Only kiss! Meow love replaces coldness, and love replaces slaughter! Meow stars have love, long live peace.”

Upstairs, the café entrance is adorned with two painted cello cases, where a majestic Garfield cat captain stands proudly, with a plaque bearing Mandela’s famous quote: “I’m the master of my fate. I’m the captain of my soul.” The walls are adorned with numerous cat-themed posters, comics, and oil paintings, while shelves display a variety of homemade fabric cat-themed dolls and ornaments.

Spring Cat 1931-themed lounge on the second floor accommodates over 40 seats, offering themed meals, casual snacks, cakes, coffee, and beverages. Visitors can indulge in delights like “Meow Baby Milk Tea” paired with handmade “Meow Baby Biscuits,” all while soaking in the delightful atmosphere of the cat-themed world.
