Zhaolin Park (兆麟公园), established in 1906, is located in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. Originally named “Board of Directors Park” and later “Special Municipal Park,” it was renamed “Daoli Park” after the liberation of China. In 1946, General Li Zhaolin, a national hero, was buried here, and the park was renamed in his honor by the Heilongjiang provincial government, becoming Zhaolin Park. The park covers an area of 6 hectares.
Due to Harbin’s unique climate, Zhaolin Park offers two distinct natural landscapes in summer and winter. In the summer, the park is a tranquil and scenic retreat, filled with lush greenery, vibrant flowers, and the sweet fragrance of blooming plants. The park is home to several charming gardens, each with its own unique appeal: “North Garden,” “Moonlit Garden,” “Little South Island,” and “Lilac Garden.” Each area offers a different experience, showcasing diverse landscapes and peaceful surroundings. Visitors can also enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the park from the 42-meter-high “Sky Viewing Wheel.” For those seeking excitement, there are thrilling amusement rides such as bumper cars, mermaid-themed attractions, and space rides.
However, the park truly transforms in winter, becoming the centerpiece of the annual Harbin Ice Lantern Festival. Starting on January 5th and running through the end of February, Zhaolin Park is turned into a magical world of ice and light. Using the natural advantage of the region’s ice and snow, combined with modern technology and artistic design, the park showcases a stunning array of ice and snow sculptures. These delicate, intricate creations are illuminated by colorful lights, creating a surreal spectacle. As night falls, the park glows with vibrant ice lanterns that combine sound, light, and motion, offering visitors an immersive experience. The beauty of this icy wonderland is truly breathtaking, with intricate sculptures and dazzling displays transporting visitors into a world of wonder.
