Embark on a captivating 2-day journey through the stunning Fujian Earthen Buildings, where ancient architecture meets breathtaking landscapes. This itinerary takes you from the picturesque Yunshuiyao Scenic Area to the iconic Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster, and into the quaint charm of Taxia Village. With each stop, you’ll discover the fascinating history and artistry that make this region a true gem in China’s cultural landscape.


Day 1: Yunshuiyao Scenic Area > Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster > Taxia Village

Transportation: Take a train from Xiamen to Nanjing Railway Station, then take a tourist bus to the scenic area. Buses depart every hour and cost 25 RMB per person, with a travel time of 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can hire a car for about 40 RMB per person.

📍 Yunshuiyao Scenic Area (3 hours)
Highlights: Part of the Nanjing Tulou, Yunshuiyao Scenic Area served as a filming location for the movie “Yunshuiyao.”
Activities: Visit the five-story Hegui Lou, which is built on marshland, and see the waterwheel featured in the film. The picturesque setting by the mountains and water is quite charming. Don’t miss Huaiyuan Lou, another filming location for the movie “Big Fish & Begonia.” Enjoy some tea on the first floor and explore upstairs. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as the paths can be rocky.
Transportation: You can take a local motorcycle taxi or taxi to Tianluokeng, which takes about 30 minutes.

📍 Tianluokeng Tulou (1-2 hours)
Highlights: A signature architectural style of Fujian Tulou, often referred to as “Four Dishes and One Soup.”
Activities: Admire the unique shape of the Tianluokeng Tulou from a high vantage point. You can pay 5-8 RMB to walk along the stairs. Local vendors sell inexpensive Tulou-themed souvenirs nearby. The night view here is stunning, and you might even spot fireflies. Visit the tilted Yuchang Lou and discover the mystery of its 13 wells on the first floor.
Transportation: Take a local taxi to Taxia Village, which takes about 19 minutes and costs around 19 RMB.

📍 Taxia Village (1-2 hours)
Highlights: Built along the river, Taxia Village retains traditional Hakka customs.
Activities: This lesser-known spot is perfect for photography, with fewer crowds. The night view is especially beautiful. Dine at a riverside restaurant, enjoying local dishes while taking in the charming scenery of small bridges and flowing water. Spend the night here; several guesthouses offer minimalist decor at very affordable prices.


Day 2: Fujian Tulou Yongding Scenic Area

📍 Fujian Tulou Yongding Scenic Area (2 hours)
Activities: Visit the “King of Tulou,” Chengqi Lou, and wander through its impressive four levels and four circles of 400 rooms, experiencing the ingenuity of the Hakka people. The interior and exterior provide excellent photo opportunities. A small commercial street in front offers local snacks like small pineapples and red-skinned bananas. Don’t miss the Qiaofulu, featuring 11 doctoral rooms, and the square Shizelou Tulou, both of which are quite impressive.
