baihua lake guiyang

Baihua Lake (百花湖), nestled in the northwestern outskirts of Guiyang City, covers a total area of 83 square kilometers, with 14.5 square kilometers dedicated to the lake and islands. Adorned with 108 islands, the lake’s shoreline features picturesque pastoral scenery. During spring, a multitude of flowers bloom along the lakeside, painting the area in a vibrant palette of colors, giving rise to the lake’s name, which translates to “Hundred Flowers.”

The Baihua Lake scenic area boasts over 50 points of interest, with 23 currently open to the public. Among these, Bird Island stands out as a precious gem, particularly during the spring and winter seasons when hundreds of birds gracefully soar above, adding to the allure of the natural landscape. Another distinctive feature is the rustic charm of the pastoral scenery. Three small villages dot the lake, where dozens of rural households thrive on the islands. Fishing boats rest along the water’s edge, nestled among the trees, offering visitors the opportunity to savor authentic rural cuisine.

In the vicinity of the lake lies the ancient Zhu Chang Fortress, dating back to the Ming Dynasty, which has been preserved to this day. Originally built as a military fortress, it spans approximately 2,000 meters and has east and west gates. Nearby, Yinpan Slope, once part of the fortress, retains remnants of its walls and ramparts, providing a glimpse into the historical fortifications, battlements, and artillery emplacements. The area is adorned with three rocky peaks known as “General One,” “General Two,” and “General Three.”

Baihua Lake and its surroundings offer a harmonious blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and historical significance. Visitors can immerse themselves in the tranquility of the lake, explore the remnants of the ancient fortress, and appreciate the unique charm of the rural villages that contribute to the rich tapestry of this scenic destination.
