Baoding Travel Guide

Baoding, located in central Hebei Province, is nestled between the Taihang Mountains to the west and Baiyangdian Lake to the east. Bordering Beijing, it is known as the “Southern Gateway to the Capital.” With a history spanning over 3,000 years since its establishment during the Warring States period, Baoding boasts a deep cultural heritage. During the Qing Dynasty, it served as the capital of Zhili Province, making it the political, economic, and cultural center of Hebei from 1669 to 1968. This historical significance has endowed Baoding with a wealth of cultural resources.

Baoding is home to numerous renowned attractions. These include the Daci Pavilion, the Zhili Governor’s Office, the Western Qing Tombs, Langya Mountain, the Jizhong Ranzhuang Tunnel Warfare Site, the Ancient Lotus Pond, and the Bell Tower.

In addition to its historical sites, Baoding is also famous for its natural scenery. Highlights include the idyllic Yesanpo Scenic Area, known as a “paradise on earth,” Baiyangdian Lake, referred to as the “Pearl of North China,” the National Geopark Bailixia, the “Heaven Beyond Heaven” at Baicaopan, and the Xishengou Valley with its dragon pools and gorges.
