Dali Dong Village (大利侗寨) is nestled in Rongjiang County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture. With a population of 1139 people residing in 238 households, the entire village is inhabited by the Dong ethnic group. The village is characterized by several key attractions, including a stone-paved ancient path dating back to the 58th year of the Qing Dynasty’s Qianlong reign. Other notable features encompass five Dong-style wind-and-rain bridges, grand Dong ethnic courtyard residences, and distinctive drying barns for harvested crops.
Surrounded by lush ancient trees, with over 400 ancient nanmu trees, Dali Dong Village embodies the traditional concept of harmony between the villagers and nature – a belief that venerates “old trees protecting the village and ancient woods blessing the settlement.” The village homes are predominantly constructed in the architectural style of pole-supported three-section and four-section wooden structures.
The village boasts five wind-and-rain bridges of varying sizes and unique styles, all made of wood with century-old histories. The pathways leading into and within the village are meticulously paved with blue stones, creating a neat and clean environment. The surroundings of the village are adorned with towering ancient trees, maintaining an intact ecological environment.
Dali exudes tranquility, with minimal influx of visitors. The villagers are known for their friendly demeanor, readily responding with smiles to friendly gestures. During the season of yangmei (waxberry), returning farmers often generously offer samples of this delicious fruit to passing visitors, further enhancing the warm hospitality of Dali Dong Village.
