daqikong scenic area libo

Located in Libo City, Guizhou Province, Daqikong Scenic Area (大七孔景区, Big Seven Arches Scenic Area ) is a natural wonderland characterized by pristine forests, deep gorges, underground rivers, and subterranean lakes. Its name, meaning “Grand Seven Arch Bridge,” stems from the majestic bridge spanning the Mengtang River. This bridge, standing at 7 meters high, 4.5 meters wide, and stretching 35 meters long, was constructed in the 20th year of the Qing Dynasty’s Daoguang reign (1847 AD) and completed in the 30th year (1850 AD). However, one arch was later washed away by floods, interrupting traffic. In the 3rd year of the Qing Guangxu reign (1877 AD), it was rebuilt and renamed Shuangxi Bridge, becoming the largest stone arch bridge within pre-liberation Libo County.

The highlights of Daqikong primarily include the karst canyons and natural bridges. While smaller than Xiaqikong, which is more developed, Daqikong offers a more adventurous experience with its untamed allure. Its rugged terrain and untouched beauty promise a thrilling exploration for visitors seeking an authentic encounter with nature.

Shanshen Gorge

Shanshen Gorge, also known as the Mountain God Gorge, is a spectacular natural canyon formed by steep cliffs on both sides. As you venture about 1 kilometer forward, you’ll encounter a cliff towering over 100 meters high on the left bank, adorned with peculiarly shaped stalactites and vibrant greenery, resembling a colorful painting hung upon the precipice. In the center of the gorge lie three caves arranged in an upward-slanting “一” shape, their depths shrouded in darkness. The largest and highest cave entrance commands a view of precipitous cliffs, narrowing sightlines, and a glimpse of the sky above.

Tiansheng Bridge

Tiansheng Bridge, also known as the Bridge of the Immortals, stands tall at 60 meters with a thickness exceeding 10 meters and a bridge span of over 20 meters. After the river flows beneath the bridge, it cascades down as a magnificent waterfall over 2 meters high. Looking up from beneath the bridge, you’ll witness massive stalactites hanging down, while cracks and crevices along the bridge’s base and sides are adorned with lush greenery, vines, and colorful flowers, creating a stunning natural rainbow bridge. Due to the turbulent waters and waves below the waterfall, small boats cannot approach, necessitating a halt to navigation upon reaching this point.

Di’er Gorge

Its cliffs are adorned with various exotic trees and plants, with the river surging fiercely during the flood season and gently murmuring during low water periods. Walking along the gorge, one experiences a mix of thrills and tranquility, as dense foliage along the paths leading to the underground river prevents any fear of falling into the water, offering endless scenic delights.
