Dalian Oriental Venice Water City (大连东方威尼斯水城) is a romantic and picturesque waterfront destination designed to capture the essence of Venice, Italy. Its planning and design began in 2014, initiated by the Dalian city government with the aim of creating a unique cultural and recreational landmark. To bring this ambitious project to life, domestic and international architects and design experts were consulted. After several years of careful planning and construction, Dalian Venice Water City officially opened to the public in 2018 with a grand opening ceremony.
Inspired by Venice, the design of the water city incorporates multiple European architectural styles, including Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance. This blend of influences creates an atmosphere that is both romantic and classical. The centerpiece of the city is its extensive canal system, with a four-kilometer-long artificial canal weaving through over 200 European-style buildings. These structures, such as churches, bell towers, palaces, and bridges, are elegantly spaced along the canal’s banks, their reflections shimmering on the water’s surface. The materials used to construct these buildings, such as imitation stone, wood, and bronze, give the city an ancient and historic feel, evoking a sense of timeless charm.
One of the key experiences in Dalian Venice Water City is the gondola ride, where visitors can glide through the winding waterways, immersing themselves in the serene beauty of the canals. The gentle flow of the water and the picturesque surroundings transport guests to the heart of Venice, creating an unforgettable experience. Beyond the gondola rides, the water city also offers various entertainment options, including a Ferris wheel, bumper cars, and a carousel, making it an appealing destination for visitors of all ages. Restaurants, cafes, and shops line the streets, providing guests with a wide array of dining and shopping options, enhancing the overall experience with delicious food and unique souvenirs.
Located adjacent to the sea, the water city features a scenic seaside promenade where visitors can take leisurely walks, feed seagulls, and admire the stunning coastal views. The gentle sea breeze and the relaxing ambiance make it an ideal spot to unwind and appreciate the poetic beauty of Dalian’s coastal landscape.
To enhance the vibrant atmosphere of the city and attract more visitors, Dalian Venice Water City hosts a variety of cultural events and festivals throughout the year. One of the highlights is the annual Chinese New Year celebration, which features spectacular fireworks displays, traditional dragon and lion dances, and folk performances. Additionally, the water city is home to the Venice International Photography Exhibition, as well as concerts and art exhibitions, which draw artists and photographers from around the world to showcase their talents and creativity.
