Huancuilou Park (çŽ¯ç¿ æ¥¼å…¬å›, Huancui Tower Park, Huancui Pavilion Park), covering an area of 53.8 hectares, is a major scenic area in Weihai City. It consists of Huancuilou Park and Huancuilou Square, named after the classical building “Huancui Tower” within the park. The park is located on the eastern slope of Naigu Mountain, with verdant mountains to the west, the azure sea to the east, and views of Foding and Gumo Ling peaks to the north and south, respectively. From the top of Huancuilou, one can see the vast blue waves to the east of the city, and the green surroundings reflecting all around, capturing the beauty of both the sea and the mountains.
Huancuilou was originally built in the second year of the Hongzhi reign in the Ming Dynasty (1489). The original structure featured flying eaves and dougong brackets with eight open windows. Over time, the building fell into disrepair and eventually collapsed. It was rebuilt several times and was destroyed by the invading Japanese army in 1944. The current Huancui Tower was reconstructed on the original site in 1978. The main building is four stories high, standing at 16.8 meters. The roof is covered with glazed tiles and features layered eaves. The windows are intricately carved, and the eaves are adorned with the three large characters “çŽ¯ç¿ æ¥¼,” written by the famous calligrapher Shu Tong.
Huancuilou Park includes several distinct areas. The Folk Culture Street is a commercial street with a focus on local customs and features the unique cultural characteristics of Weihai. It includes a Folk Culture Square and an ancient theater stage, allowing visitors to enjoy the charm of Jiaodong culture while shopping and dining. The area offers folk culture experiences, accommodation, dining, and traditional sports activities.
The Bonsai Garden within the park is a multifunctional cultural amusement park that combines bonsai and garden art, making it a park within a park. The garden uses imitation ancient buildings and garden features to create various small scenic spots, harmoniously integrating with the architecture and natural landscape for a visually appealing experience.
The entertainment and fitness area of the park is themed around folk legends and is built along the mountain, blending seamlessly with the overall park environment. This area provides a space for citizens to engage in activities that combine participation, observation, entertainment, and fun.
