The Lin Qiaozhi Memorial Hall (林巧稚纪念馆) is located within Yuyuan Garden (毓å›) on Gulangyu Island in Xiamen, China. This memorial honors Dr. Lin Qiaozhi, a renowned contemporary Chinese obstetrician and gynecologist. Yuyuan Garden covers an area of 5,700 square meters, featuring flower beds on both sides with clean asters and stone steps lined with vibrant flowers such as Milan, hibiscus, dahlias, and salvia, creating a welcoming pathway for visitors. A notable feature is the 1,000-square-meter platform paved with granite bricks, where a standing white marble statue of Dr. Lin Qiaozhi is situated on the right side of the platform. The statue depicts her with a kind face and simple attire, exuding a maternal warmth.
The garden also includes two sculptures of children, one depicting five children side by side and the other a baby held in hands, both popular spots for visitors to take photos. Additionally, the garden houses a 140-square-meter exhibition hall dedicated to Dr. Lin Qiaozhi’s life and achievements. This exhibition hall displays personal items, written works, over a hundred photographs of her social activities, work, and daily life, commemorative gifts from foreign friends, and inscriptions from Chinese leaders honoring Dr. Lin. There are also numerous certificates and other valuable documents. Notably, two Araucaria trees were planted in the garden by Deng Yingchao, symbolizing Dr. Lin’s noble and pure character.
Dr. Lin Qiaozhi was born on December 23, 1901, in a teacher’s family at the foot of Sunlight Rock. She is considered a pioneer of modern obstetrics and gynecology in China. Throughout her life, she trained many medical professionals, personally delivered over 50,000 babies, and treated countless gynecological patients, all while remaining unmarried and dedicating her life to the health of women and children and the training of medical talents. The name “Yuyuan,” which means nurturing and fostering, reflects the memorial garden’s purpose.

Location and Transportation
The Lin Qiaozhi Memorial Hall is located near the intersection of Fuxing Road and Zhangzhou Road in Siming District, Xiamen, Fujian Province. To visit, take a ferry from Xiamen Ferry Terminal to Gulangyu Island. After disembarking, the memorial hall is within walking distance.
