Meihuazhou Scenic Area, Jiaxing – Ticket, Opening Hours, Location, and Highlights

meihuazhou scenic area

Located in Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, the Meihuazhou Scenic Area (梅花洲景区) is the birthplace of three ancient cultures: the Majiabang Culture, Songze Culture, and Liangzhu Culture. The area is named “Meihuazhou” (Plum Blossom Island) due to its intricate network of rivers, which divides the land into five sections resembling the petals of a plum blossom. With a history of over 1500 years, the scenic area has endured the trials of time, yet its unique landscape and river channels remain remarkably well-preserved, earning it the status of a natural wonder.

Following its reconstruction, the Meihuazhou Scenic Area now spans an area of 12,000 mu (approximately 800 hectares). The original “Eight Scenic Spots of Meihuazhou,” including the Diamond Trees, Bodhi Trees, Yijian Spring, Four Buddha Stones, Meihuazhou, Qinglian Pond, Xianghua Bridge, and Baiyun Qiu, have been meticulously restored. Exhibitions showcasing the Majiabang, Songze, and Liangzhu cultural relics offer visitors a glimpse into the glorious civilizations of the past. Among the highlights are ancient landmarks such as the millennium-old ginkgo trees, the Three-Step Two-Plank Bridge with a history of over 1250 years, and well-preserved Ming and Qing Dynasty mansions, each bearing testament to the region’s rich history.

Visitors to the Meihuazhou Scenic Area can also explore the 1500-year-old Stone Buddha Temple. Founded during the Southern Song Dynasty, the temple gained its name “Shifo Yuan” (Stone Buddha Temple) in the second year of the Tang Dynasty’s Zhide era (757 AD) when four stone Buddha statues were unearthed during land reclamation.

Within the Meihuazhou Picking Garden, visitors can engage in seasonal fruit-picking activities such as strawberries (additional fee required). For groups of friends, there are also opportunities for real-life CS (Counter-Strike) games, barbecues, and various team-building activities. Meihuazhou is also an ideal destination for weekend outings with children, as the scenic area is compact and easy to navigate, minimizing fatigue. Children can enjoy dedicated play areas, and families can embark on boat rides to admire the scenery of Meihuazhou from the water. With tickets priced at only 20 yuan per person for a 20-minute ride, it offers an affordable and enjoyable experience for all.
