The Memorial of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (抗美援朝纪念馆), established in October 1958, officially opened its new building on July 27, 1993. It serves as a specialized museum that comprehensively reflects the history of the Chinese people’s participation in the Korean War and the broader movement of aiding Korea.
The memorial is set in a vast area of 182,000 square meters and includes several key components: the memorial hall, a commemorative tower, a panoramic painting hall, and a national defense education park. The main building of the memorial covers an area of 23,800 square meters and is centered around the exhibition theme “Resist US Aggression, Aid Korea, and Defend the Home Country.” The hall features several sections, including: Entrance Hall, Korean War Hall, Korean Aid Movement Hall, Sino-Korean Friendship Hall, and Hall of the Heroes of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army, providing a comprehensive, objective, and truthful account of the history surrounding the Korean War and the support extended to Korea.
The panoramic painting hall showcases a significant work titled “The Encirclement Battle at the Changjin River,” which depicts the heroism of the volunteer army during the second campaign of the Korean War, focusing on key battles such as those at Sanli and Longyuanli.
The memorial houses over 19,500 cultural relics, divided into two major collections: artifacts related to the Korean War and historical artifacts. The collection includes over 12,100 items related to the Korean War, among which are 47 national-level cultural relics, such as:
- The First-Class Medal of Independence and Freedom awarded to Hong Xuezhi, the former Vice Commander of the Volunteer Army.
- Materials from road surveys north of Pyongyang.
- A camera used by Jiefang, the chief of staff during negotiation times.

- Various personal artifacts from notable figures, including the carbine of Song Shilun, commander of the 9th Corps, and the manuscript of Wei Wei’s “Days and Nights on the South Bank of the Han River.”
Additionally, the museum contains 7,391 historical artifacts, including ceramics, bronzes, coins, paintings, and other crafts, which further enrich its significance as a historical site.
