In September, the Mulan Paddock is a great place for photography. The peak season is from July to August, but there are also advantages to visiting during the off-peak season: it’s less crowded and you can explore at a leisurely pace.
The wind at Bashang is strong, and the temperature difference between morning and evening is significant, so it is advisable to bring extra clothing. The grasslands can be quite sunny, so wearing sunglasses and a hat and applying sunscreen is recommended. When visiting Mulan Weichang, it is generally recommended to spend two to three days there. Mulan Weichang is located in the Ba Shang area, where the temperature difference between day and night can be significant, especially in summer, with strong sunlight during the day and chilly winds at night. In addition to bringing warm clothes, it is advisable to have sunscreen, a windproof hat, gloves, and a pair of hiking shoes (riding boots can be rented on site).
You can enter along the Qisai Line and navigate to the Mulan Weichang area. The main road is free, but there are fire safety checks at the entrance. The smaller scenic spots are closed, but the main road is passable. There is a fence along the way to the Sun Lake, so cars cannot pass through, but it is accessible by foot. You can navigate to Sun Lake for directions.
The Bashang Grasslands have greened up early this year and are about to enter the peak season. My suggestion is to avoid visiting on Fridays and Saturdays as room rates double and need to be booked at least half a month in advance. Otherwise, if you arrive without a reservation, not only will it be expensive, but finding accommodation last minute is considered lucky!
