The Princess Building (公主楼, Princess Villa) is located in the Eight Great Passes area of Qingdao. The structure comprises a pointed tower and an irregularly sloping roof with a square platform on the south side, resembling a common feature in fairy tales, charming and delightful. Constructed in the mid-1930s, the Princess Building covers nearly a thousand square meters, with a floor area of 721.98 square meters.
Legend has it that in 1929, a prince from the Kingdom of Denmark arrived in Qingdao on the luxurious cruise ship “Fioniya” for sightseeing. Captivated by the beautiful coastal scenery of the Eight Great Passes, he decided to establish a consulate for the Kingdom of Denmark in Qingdao in 1931, with Zhao Hengsheng appointed as the first consul. The Danish prince then entrusted Zhao Hengsheng to purchase land on the Eight Great Passes coastline and design and build this Danish classical-style building, intending to present it as a gift to a Danish princess. Although the Danish princess never visited Qingdao, the name “Princess Building” spread widely.
The architecture follows a Danish style, with the main building constructed of brick and wood, featuring a granite base, three above-ground floors, and one underground floor. The steep double-sloped roof ridge has dormer windows for a distant view of the coast. The exterior walls are painted in dark green, with floors framed by white and green mosaic decorations. The building’s design is simple, smooth, exquisite, and lively. Inside, there are closets, finely crafted wooden stairs, flooring, and wainscoting, with small yet bright rooms equipped with complete living facilities. Outside, there is a spacious lawn to the southwest, complementing the main building’s elegance and uniqueness.
The interior of the Princess Building is divided into several functional areas. The first floor serves as the princess’s dining and living rooms, the second floor houses her bedroom, dressing room, and chess room, while the attic on the third floor contains two exhibition halls. These halls display precious items such as a statue of Hans Christian Andersen, historical and cultural books, fairy tales, city souvenirs, and Danish paper-cutting gifts donated by the Hans Christian Andersen Museum. These exhibits not only enrich the cultural connotation of the Princess Building but also make it an important window for showcasing Qingdao’s historical culture and promoting cultural exchange.

Location and Transportation
The Princess Building is situated at 10 Juyongguan Road, Qingdao City, Shandong Province, located in the heart of the Eight Great Passes scenic area. To get there, you can choose one of the following ways:
Bus: Take bus 219 or 468, get off at Zhengyangguan Road Huiquan Road Stop, and walk about 350 meters to the east.
Metro: The closest metro station to the Princess Building is Zhongshan Park on line 3. After getting out of the station from Exit C, walk about 700 meters to the south to reach the building.
